When Scott and Kate Johansen’s daughter gets into the college of her dreams it’s cause for celebration. That is, until Scott and Kate learn that the scholarship they were counting on didn’t come through, and they’re now on the hook for tuition they can’t begin to afford. With the help of their friend and neighbor Frank also in need of a major payday they decide to open an illegal casino in his suburban house, risking everything together on a Vegas-style bacchanal where money flows, inhibitions are checked at the door, and all bets are off.

Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

This movie is hilarious. My roommates and I have watched it twice and we all laughed our butts off each time we watched it. Packed full of jokes. "Why are you wearing sunglasses inside?" ".....Because my futures so bright?" Freaking hilarious! Give this movie a chance, it's worth it.

There are only maybe two or three moments in 'The House (2017)' that made me audibly chuckle - 'chuckle' being the operative word because nothing escaped my lips that came close to what I'd qualify as a full blown 'laugh' - and only a couple more that provoked even a smile. In fact, the funniest moment occurs in the gag-reel, which doesn't count because that's not actually part of the movie. It fails as a comedy and essentially fails as a film, too, though not spectacularly so because, while it is passably entertaining, it is painfully forgettable and, even when the contrivances of the plot come into play - which are indeed contrivances in every sense of the word, nothing stands out and even less surprises. 5/10

I'm a Will Ferrel fan. But this, it's just horriable! Actors are great, which is what makes you interested in the movie, but very badly done and script writing is below average. I really wanted to like this! :( Please don't waste your time!

The first 30-40 minutes are fairly promising as long as you buy into the silly premise. But I was still onboard because of the great character actors. There's a lot of funny people in the movie but the script is absurd, and not in a good way. When a certain act of violence happens in the middle the rest of the movie just doesn't make any sense anymore and it doesn't play by the silly movie town rules they started with. There's laughs at times throughout the movie but not enough for me to recommend it.
