... View MoreAt first, I would like to say something about the translation of the film as an interpreter. The most suitable title of the film-also better than the original one- was translated into Turkish as "Araftaki Ev" means the house stays in limbo. Except of it, it is the first Venezualian thriller as far as I read. In spite of having a very restricted budget, these guys did totally a very good job. Montage of the film is unbelievably amazing, yet the scenario has remained a mystery for most of the people. In fact, these kind of films draw my attention more. The more you think about it and the details, the more you discover the hidden parts. Congrats Hidalgo !
... View MoreThe house at the end of time isn't a straight horror film. In my eyes it was much more a drama film with a sprinkle of horror and some sci-fi.This movie did one of my favorite things to see in movies. The majority of the story is told through flashbacks, or so you think. It's at least presented that way through the first 2/3 of the movie. Then in the third act, when everything starts coming together and connecting, you get the "Aha" moment. It doesn't stop though. The story continues to unfold until everything is completely explained to you and you stop and say "Holy hell, it all makes sense now." The acting in the movie is fantastic. Even the husband, who for the majority of the time does nothing but look distressed, angry, depressed, but never happy, brought so much to the movie. His facial expressions alone make the movie worth watching because he does such a fantastic job with expressing his character so well through them. The mother had a lot more to say than the husband, but the facial expressions are once again what steal the show. So much can be said through the way the eyes that bulge, or the mouth that quivers. Every actor both big and small deserves credit for the amazing work that made this film.I am slowly becoming a HUGE fan of foreign films, especially in the horror genre. Somehow other countries just seem to know how to make better quality films, and for that I say thank you.
... View More"The House At The End Of Time" is a atmospheric blended genre film both elevated and stylish. It combines both the science fiction concepts of time warp and temporal rift with elements of paranormal and haunting illusionism. The film offers a Gothic nightmare to rival any horror or fantasy created by some of Latin America's more notable directors/storytellers. The story revolves around a family near destitute, offered the opportunity to have a home with the help of the local government. Unfortunately the house comes at a high price that far reaches any monetary cost. It harbors a chilling secreted past that is dark and very disturbing. Framed more as a haunted dwelling, and attached to the chilling paranormal 11:11 theory, "The House At The End Of Time" is one of the creepiest and dramatic horror films that I have seen. One that actually creates deep, emotional suspense and melodrama while offering a more heartfelt connection between the viewer and the characters on screen. Hidalgo is brilliant in his direction of this truly horrific situation. The acting is an even-paced, suspenseful display of despair, tension, and downright creepy character development. One that in the end gives us a true "happy ending" fitting a nightmare. It is a dark, theatrical foray of relationships, second chances, and tragedy embraced by heavy, atmospheric paranormal scenarios that keep this doomed family on the edge of hopelessness. "The House At The End Of Time" is impressive, thought provoking and cerebral. The special effects used in "The House At The End Of Time" are a collection of instrumental sound effects classic to a Gothic ghost story, typical paranormal camera tricks, and stellar make-up effects that give you the total haunting illusion while masking the nightmare's true nature. A nature that lends more to quantum theories of time distortions like the ones I mentioned earlier- temporal rifts and time warps. The overall effectiveness of the styling and illusions used here are executed beautifully, keeping the story's heavy sorrowful overcast, the dark subject matter, and melodrama in near perfect balance from the film's beginning right up until the more pleasant ending. "The House At The End Of Time" is fantastical story both dark and disturbing that I believe all movie fans will enjoy, not just horror fans.
... View MoreIt might seem like it and technically you'd be correct if you call this another haunted house. But that would be just looking on the outside. I'd invite you to get into the house (yes it doesn't seem to be the brightest idea, but wait for it)! Actually the movie has a lot of heart, even when you think it is about to go horribly wrong. You could also argue, that it all makes sense (in the end). More or less that is. Another factor are the actors. The story twists are one thing (also very nicely timed), but what really helps elevate this besides the clever script are the actors. There are even moments where you might feel a certain sadness and a Deja Vu towards the end third of the movie, that is just amazing. Try to stay open minded. My first/initial reaction wasn't a good one either, but as the movie moved along, I started to see things and it won me over
