Better Late Then Never
... View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
... View MoreStory: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
... View MoreStrong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
... View Moreone illogical twist after another. especially the end : Ben Geary (Topher Grace) has been waiting for 10 years to kill Cassius, so why doesn't he kill him when he's right in front of him and has a gun in his hand to do it? And does he think the Russians will allow him (sleeper / Russian agent) to remain with his American family? no way! And why doesn't he tell Tom Highland (Martin Sheen) the truth? That Gere = Cassius and Bozlovski = also an assassin, just a different one. And that Bozlovski (Tamer Hassan) killed Gere's wife and son in 1988. Apparently, it is easy to lie to the head of CIA as well as FBI. You even get a job proposal! By the way, why would a CIA agent have more field-work than an FBI agent? Usually, it is the other way around. Another illogicality. And another thing : why would an assassin (Richard Gere) live out the rest of his life in the same town/vicinity, where the most CIA and FBI agents are around (headquarters)? Maybe I see more crazy issues than there are, blurred by seeing so many crazy issues.
... View MoreAfter a United States senator is killed an FBI agent named "Ben Geary" (Topher Grace) is convinced that it is the work of an old Soviet assassin nicknamed "Cassius". So at a meeting with the directors of the FBI and CIA he puts his theory out there. However, a CIA agent by the name of "Paul Shepherdson" (Richard Gere) is still not convinced. Unfortunately, the director of the CIA "Tom Highland" (Martin Sheen) wants proof that Cassius isn't the culprit and so both Geary and Shepherdson are teamed up to investigate whether or not the theory is true. Now rather than reveal any more of this movie and risk spoiling it for those who haven't seen it, I will just say that it had some interesting twists and turns along the way. Having said that I thought that the movie could have been better if had a little more mystery and suspense here and there. But that's just my opinion. In any case, I thought the movie was somewhat entertaining and so I rate it as slightly above average.
... View MoreOuch, what a setback I thought a film with Richard Gere as a retired secret agent might well be interesting. That was the first half hour. When I saw T. Grace, I didn't recognize him immediately , and then it hit me. He used to play in "That '70s Show". At that time he already looked sluggish and dull. In this movie it also seemed as if he would fall asleep any time. This part totally didn't suit him.The plot being revealed so early is something new. But then it all crumbles down and at the end you get a totally unexpected twist. The only thing is, it's totally unbelievable. The heroic fight at the end between Gere and Tamer Hassan was kind of entertaining, but when suddenly Gere crawls along Grace and almost immediately passes away, I was like, "Yep, come on". What a silly theater.A spy / thriller with a great start, a surprisingly early disclosure and then a downward flight to an anticlimax. One positive thing : it was fun to see Martin Sheen playing again.More reviews at http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/
... View MoreRarely have I experienced such a lighthearted romp. Through the dimly lit streets of DC, an FBI Agent drags his loser-CIA-has-been, companion through some really hilarious moments of turmoil and espionage. What a blast. Adding to the joviality, the pavement always has that recently-rained-on-sheen allowing shoes to make really cool splishy-splashy sounds while our farcical pair jog here turn around and run there. Talk about fun-filled suspense. With oh so many twists-and-turns, this movie's intenseness, intrigue and blistering pace make it a hard cookie to describe and difficult to take serious. I think the Romans would have labeled this simply an 'odiosis fabula.' Let's face it - this is one cloak-and-dagger slog superbly molded for the gormless. The inane plot's execution is so ingenuous the most fatuous will easily comprehend it. Additionally, the shots of D.C. are so spectacularly repeated, they almost redefine ad nauseam. This is a movie for the ages. I am so impressed I am running out right now and buying the DVD. I want to brag about ownership to all my friends. The heck with that – I am going to shout this out to the world. Phew – I am winded just thinking about this flick. Anyways if you have not seen this yet, you are not alone. Let's see if we can see this one together or not.
