It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

If you enjoy scenes that come into focus and out of focus as the shaky camera also juggles, this is a great movie. If you think shaky cameras and blurry movies suck, then we are in agreement. This movie is so awful that I could not see much of it. The characters talk to the camera, because one of them is filming everyone constantly. So in addition to the shaky blurry scenes, we get annoying characters talking to the camera to let the audience know what they are thinking. I wanted to throw up on the television after a few minutes of this awful movie.

When I realised that this was a 'mock-umentary' I nearly turned it off, but what kept me watching was the acting, or rather the lack of acting. If that sounds bonkers, what I mean is that the actors for the most part pulled off a rare achievement: appearing NOT to be actors, but seeming to be real people. I can only assume that those reviewers who rated the acting as awful spend too much of their time in movieworld and have forgotten how real people sound, i.e. unprepared, off-the-cuff and uncertain rather than speaking as if they obviously know their lines. In this respect, this film was remarkably realistic. On the whole 'exorcism' issue, this film also contained one of the most intelligent debates on the 'Possession versus mental illness' arguments that I've seen. So in conclusion, if you want a formulaic, shock-horror fright-fest, don't watch this. If, however, you want an intelligent film with 'real life' dialogue instead of smoothie-polished Hollywood glitz, and a different take on the 'religion versus science' question of exorcism then watch this with an open mind and enjoy a non-mainstream film.

Before reading this review, I want you to consider this; when I first saw the trailer for "The Devil Inside" back in late 2011, I REALLY wanted to see this movie BAD. Regardless of the movie's quality, "The Devil Inside" had one of the best, scariest and, in hindsight, most deceptive trailers I had ever seen. Before the movie was even released I was already ready to call this movie one of the scariest films of all time. Even after reviews came in flat-out destroying the movie, I still had faith that when I saw this film, I was in for a flat out roller coaster ride of screams and horror. Eventually, "The Devil Inside" was released On Demand, and as soon as it was available, I rented it and prepared myself for a lifetime of scares...That never came. This movie had about as much realism and authenticity as an episode of Parental Control, and unfortunately NONE of the laughs. The dialogue is so awful and corny that it wouldn't even pass in a Z-Grade slasher film. On top of that, unlike in GOOD found footage horror movies where almost all of the footage is used as build up, character scenes or scenes to advance the story, "The Devil Inside" features countless scenes of pointless, boring footage thrown in for absolutely no reason other than to help the film reach feature length. If you hadn't guessed by my introductory paragraph, the scares in this movie are SOME OF THE WORST I'VE EVER F***ING EXPERIENCED! This movie is NEVER scary, and it often reaches the very bottom of the barrel for scares. From the contortionist demonically possessed scare (That never worked but for some reason bad horror movies keep using over and over because they think it's scary), to the random nursery rhyme rehearsal scare that comes right the Hell out of nowhere with hardly any connection to anything, to...A dog barking. Yes, "The Devil Inside" is so desperate that it has to use a dog barking as a jump scare. Oh yeah, and you know that poster/video clip of the old nun with the glazed over eyes that was marketed EVERYWHERE when this movie came out? Guess what? That scene is in the movie alright, but it's not even intended as a scare. An old woman shows up with glazed over eyes when the crew is running and they cut back to the normal footage like nothing happened. No connection to the plot, no build up, this image was merely thrown in to trick people into going to see a terrible horror movie. Pathetic. The characters range from forgettable to downright detestable, particularly the protagonist Isabella. Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade) is annoying, selfish, foolish and obnoxious from beginning to end. I have never cheered for a main character in a horror movie to die more than I have for this one.The acting is the worst I have seen in a theatrical movie EVER. Fernanda Andrade gives the most unemotive, wooden, painful performance I've seen in my life. Truth be told, she is honestly worse here than Tommy Wiseau in The Room; at least Wiseau made me laugh instead of want to stab my eyes out with scissors. Simon Quarterman is almost as bad as Andrade, underacting to Middle School Play levels and helping to make the entire viewing experience torture. Suzan Crowley, most likely fully aware of just how bad this film's dialogue is, overacts to hilarious levels, not once seeming possessed, scary or real.Believe it or not though, I STILL haven't gone over the worst part of the movie yet! It's not the lack of realism. It's not the awful characters. It's not the horrendous acting. It's not even the lack of scares. It's the fact that there...Is...No...PLOT! I am dead serious, that's not just an accusation I fling around lightly! It's just following Isabella and Exorcist Inc. around doing random exorcisms, neverending babble about "multiple demonic possession", a priest kills himself after being possessed, Isabella gets possessed and confusingly gets the whole team killed in a car crash, and the movie tells us to go to some crappy website for "more information on the ongoing investigation." If you go to that website, you're stupid. What do you want me to say? Seeing the audience reaction trailer to this travesty honestly makes me want to cry. I hope that all of the people who pretended to be scared of this garbage were paid well for causing so many people, including me, unbearable, excruciating pain. I can only hope it doesn't weigh too heavily on their conscience. I also hope that William Brent Bell gets officially kicked out of the filmmaking business for flat out lying to audiences about this monstrosity of a "horror movie", because I am downright positive I am never gonna see a theatrically released movie as bad as this one as long as I live.

I'd say that's about 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back. What complete garbage this movie is. No plot to follow and it just felt like it was rehashing of "real life" events. Not to mention that the acting and direction were atrocious. I don't understand how people can waste their money on something like this. I'd really like to know what the whole point of watching these movies are. Thank god some people have the decency to vote this low and its official rating should be even lower. To point out how laughably bad this was, I literally laughed my ass off in one exorcism scene. This is how mediocre and dumb this movie can get. This is really one of those movies in which you should listen to the bad reviews and comments, as it is not even worthy of being mentioned as a bad movie. Time wasting is what this is.
