The Christmas Candle Trailers

Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village of Gladbury. Legend has it every 25 years an angel visits the village candlemaker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights this candle receives a miracle on Christmas Eve. But in 1890, at the dawn of the electric age, this centuries old legend may come to an end.

I saw this film around the holidays with the hope it would help put me in the Christmas spirit. It didn't. Although well intentioned, this film is a huge misfire.Every 25 years, the town candle maker is given (magically?) a candle that grants the wish of the villager who receives it. For the sake of story, why not make it every 5 years because the villagers would likely forget after 25 years....but i digress. The new pastor in town tries to dispute this myth as he has his own reason to not believe in miracles. Sounds good right?Wrong. The story becomes increasingly muddled and boring with side plots of the villagers, each of whom wants the candle for their own reasons. Susan Boyle plays one of the villagers whose husband is ill. If you think Ms. Boyle is awkward in real life, wait till you see her try to act!I hate to be a grinch, but this movie and the sappy conclusion left me cold. On a positive note, nice job with the scenery and capturing the quaintness of a 19th century village.

I don't understand how the overall rating for this movie is 4.4 as of this review. This was an awesome movie from beginning to end and I was elated that it was in the theater. The cast was wonderful and complemented each other. Susan Bolye was very convincing and did an excellent acting job--her voice is amazing. This is a story of the human spirit; of lost hope and faith that was regained through the actions (hope and faith) of others. How decisions we make that change the course of life and how those decisions don't work they way we plan but how good ultimately triumphs in the end if you let it. It is an excellent family movie. We need more movies like this one so I do hope you support this movie by going to the theater or at least buying the DVD when it comes out. I plan on going to see this movie again, maybe Christmas Day, I hope you do too...

I have to be honest and admit that I haven't yet seen this film, but I was so impressed with the tone of the reviews, I had to add this comment. All of the reviews were very high with the obvious exception of people who clearly disclosed themselves to be anti-Christian, left-wing liberal Christmas-haters. I would bet they are the same people who insist that we all say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. It's so sad to see the bitterness and anger that these nay-sayers reflect in their angry commentaries...wow.Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter a positive review...I am looking forward to seeing the movie!

This was a wonderful Christmas movie that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas - helping each other and making our own miracles happen. This is a story about a minister who has had his faith shaken after a tragedy in his personal life. It was engaging as he made discoveries in himself while attempting to help a town that was obsessed with the "Christmas candle" legend. Both the minister and the town learn from each other. The surprise ending was a perfect way to wrap up the story. The acting was great and the costumes, scenery and cinematography were beautiful. We went as a family with teenagers and grandparents. It was enjoyed by young and old. Highly recommend this movie for Christians especially.
