Maudlin mAudlin maUdlin mauDlin maudLin maudlIn maudliN Sickeningly maudlin!!!!Four girls with questionable entertaining ability want to make it big in the music business. Not a new story. My daughter loves this movie, but then again, she loves everything from Disney. I think I'm neglecting my duty as a parent by not locking out this channel. The movie is quite ludicrous and really strains the will. I failed the test and finally had to run out of the room leaving my daughter rapt. I tried not to pay any attention to the, but I can see and hear the TV from the kitchen. Several times I had to laugh aloud, not because something funny had happened on the screen, but because something so mind-numbing had happened that I had to choose between laughing and screaming. The only person not trying to talk "urban" (read: American Black) all the time was Raven Pearman, and that gets old really fast. The straw that broke this camel's back was the ultra-maudlin last scenes with the dog in the hole. I moaned and protested audibly when the news crew arrived, when the police spoke in such urgent tones about shutting down power, when Raven started pleading into the camera, and finally, when she started singing. I didn't wait for the others to pick up the cue and start harmonising. That's when I ran out the door.

Some may say that this movie is "un-realstic". Sure it is, but thats part of what makes it entertaining. Not all of these girls are stuck-up-rich-brats. Dorinda is a foster child with a very good heart. Chanel is not completely stuck up & is still there for her friends. Aqua is an interesting character in the first movie & Galleria is semi- stuck up. You still have to remember that in the first movie they are suppost to be freshmen. With this, do you expect them to be totally mature? Overall, the Cheetah Girls send a great message out to young girls. They celebrate eachothers differences & show girls that you don't have to conform to a certain stereotype to be pretty. None of them are stick thin, but none of them are extremely overweight... well Raven was a little but she is not a Cheetah Girls anymore. They are different races, have different family lifestyles, and all this & are still best friends. This movie has a message of accepting people for who they are & not judging. It also encourages girls to go for their dreams. Most importantly now its showing girls not to conform to stereotypes. Like I said, none of them are stick thin & they are all different, yet they are all beautiful. I think that this is so important with the society we have today, constantly pressuring girls to look a certain way. Sabrina Bryan, Kiely Williams & Adrienne Bailon are great actors & singers & also outstanding role models. This movie is the best Disney movie ever. In the movie they might not seem like the best role models, but in real life, the use their fame wisely and are amazing role models.

The Cheetah Girls tells about four friends who's band name is the same as the name of the movie. They are about to participate in a Talent hunt show at their school but then a bigger offer of singing for a famous person connected with music could make them well-known. But because of one girls being bossy and presiding over them, things don't go well. The thing I did not like in this movie is the amount of attitude each person shows. It has to be Raven who has to show much of attitude, not the other girls. But all of them behave in such a way that you love to hate them. Raven can't be blamed because she has to be bossy, but the other girls are unnecessarily shown too over smart. This is because of bad direction and not a well written script. The director could have told the other three girls to behave normally and not show their attitude while the script writer could have given the girls a much better script so that the audience felt as if only Raven was the bossy and the spoilt one and not the others.Proceeding to the performances, I feel that Raven has done a good job compared to the others in being a rude and mean girl but she gets somewhat irritating when you keep seeing her doing the same for a long time. The girl who comes as her best friend has not done a good job. The way she shouts over the telephone, her somewhat haggered looks and her expressions make you feel unsymphatetic for her even she she is shedding tears. The other black girl, I don't know her name, too has not given a good performance. In fact, she doesn't seem to be their friends at all. Her expressions and her way of talking towards Raven's best friend makes her look as if she is their nemesis. You know, when she talks to Raven's best friend, she looks as if she is commanding her. The fourth cheetah girl too hasn't done a nice job. You can't believe that she is a foster child with very little money with all her style and her way of talking. Raven, out of the four, shines because she has done more of acting, I think and because the other three are mainly singers. The lady who comes as Raven's mother makes me go red. She is so annoying, not letting Raven do anything and treating her like a child. I wouldn't have hated her so much if she had a shorter role. The man who comes as Raven's father has to be given the address of the Actor's school. Raven's best friend's mother didn't have much of a role, therefore, I am not commenting about her. There is no chemistry between Raven and the guy who loves her. The showed her rejecting him in some of the scenes but at last, he comes to console her when she is lonely. It looks as if she doesn't really care for him but just because she was so sad, he came as the agony aunt. The last Toto scene was perhaps one of the worst, the weirdest and the stupidest climax in the history of Hollywood. If my dog gets trapped in some manhole or something, only the animal control, my inquisitive neighbors and rarely, reporters would turn up. But her, almost a part of the city arrives to the spot. It's such a silly way to reunite the Cheetah girls. There are some witty dialogs though, especially when Raven says, "If he cannot respect my art, he cannot have my heart!". The songs are good to listen too but there was a shortage of songs. I mean, its about music so there should have been some more songs.Overall, its a hammy movie that fails to capture your heart and is uninspiring. 3 out of 10 is my final verdict.

Let's remember the audience here - pre-teen girls. While the ending "crisis" that causes the girls to get back together is incredibly unimaginative and completely absurd, the rest of the movie promotes self-confidence - certainly something all pre-teen girls can use.Perhaps more importantly, the Cheetah Girls themselves aren't tiny little waifs. They look, gosh, normal, and aren't complaining about it. So many other movies and TV shows aimed at the young girl set have chronic weight issues, it's refreshing to see characters living their lives without constantly freaking about body type. That alone separates this movie from 98 percent of the others. It entertains, it has decent lessons. There's a lot worse out there.
