It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Whilst talking to a friend about what TV shows they are watching, I got told about the (extended) Noir-Noir Spanish Mini-Series I Know Who You Are. Catching up on the series, I got recommended a Spanish flick that was about to be removed from the site, which led to me uncovering the body. The plot:Feeling sick at seeing how his millionaire wife Mayka Villaverde has lost all her good looks, Alejandro "Álex" Ulloa makes a deal with secret lover Carla to kill Mayka, and then run off together. Getting a slow-acting chemical from his workplace,Alex waits for Mayka to die, then phones up the cops to get the body. Expecting to wait for his winnings, Alex gets a call to go to the morgue. At the morgue, Alex is told by cop Jaime Peña that Mayka's body has disappeared. As Peña searches for the body,Alex gets signs that Mayka has not passed on.View on the film:Picking up the black leather gloves of the Giallo with Neo-Noir hands,co-writer/(with Lara Sendim) director Oriol Paulo & cinematographer Oscar Faura undress the body with an icy supernatural (bloodless) Horror/Giallo atmosphere,as ultra-stylised whip-pans across the morgue suggest a hidden figure hiding in the shadows, whilst reflections in wine glasses and circling camera moves subtly change what is being reflected at Alex. Largely taking place in one location, (with extended flashbacks) opens up the tomb of the morgue with a pristine Neo-Noir metallic shine lining the walls, which close Alex and Peña on a tightly coiled interrogations.Offering up to Alex various rational reasons to Mayka's disappearance, the screenplay by Paulo and Sendim brilliantly keep the possible supernatural Horror ambiguous, which give the writers a chance to dig into the major Giallo theme of the ruthless upper class, via Alex having an arrogance over even looking at Peña and seeing murder as a quick path to a sack of cash.Thumping the table at Alex's refusal to answer, the writers cut prime Neo-Noir dialogue for Peña,whose initial worn-down appearance is revealed to hide a burning Noir anger.Deconstructing the entire day from Mayka death to Alex's arrival at the mood, the writers unveil a magnificent, macabre twist, which hits thanks to the writers cleverly placing scenes where the viewer can see things from a different perspective on a second viewing. Sweating with fear over Peña unlocking the truth, Hugo Silva gives a superb performance as Alex, whose abrasive attitude Silva holds onto as a mask to hide Alex's fear. Determined to smoke out the whereabouts of Mayka (played by a glamorous Belén Rueda) Jose Coronado gives Peña an excellent hard-nosed aggression smashing Alex's arrogance, as the worn-down Noir loner look of Peña is peeled away by Coronado to reveal a sharp-calculating grip,as the body hits the floor.

"The Body" is a mystery thriller, evolving around a corpse that goes missing. When a man murders his rich wife to live with his lover, he feels on the safe side until her body disappears and a set of strange events and messages starts to come in, leaving him wonder how dead she really is.The film manages to create a very decent and suitable atmosphere. It leaves room for a lot of speculation and even though it might seem predictable in the beginning, it really is quite the contrary. There is more than one stunning twist woven into the story and you will probably stay excited to learn what's going on until the very end. Unfortunately, this excellent plot is partly weakened by some obvious logical problems. There are accused alone in a room full of glass windows, the man behaves in the dumbest way I can imagine for someone trying to keep a secret, to name two. Some of the characters are additionally quite cliché, like the old, empty inspector. All in all, this doesn't keep this film to be one of the better thrillers I've seen in the last years. But unfortunately it keeps it from being even more, and there's quite some potential in this movie to achieve greatness. Nevertheless if you like thrillers you shouldn't miss this one.

I found this movie in the recommendation part of the page while I was writing a review about "Tell No One", another great movie that had been created based on the novel by "Harlan Coben". the IMDb points had given me high expectation because it was higher than 7 and I'm glad to watch it. It was great movie with shocking end just like what I like to see in the movies or read in the books. full mysterious movies make me stick to the seat and follow every move the characters made till to the end and this movie got great point from me because it is not like most of the movies nowadays we can see in the theaters, which are combination of violence, guns, unbelievable scenes, superhuman heroes, bla, bla, bla. this movie was believable enough to stand alone and get attention. also I have just a small criticism. why didn't the man in custody want and request for a lawyer at all while he needed it so badly? it is one of the mistakes that the director has made, from my viewpoint.

If you like intriguing movies where you try to figure out what happened then El Cuerpo is just the kind of movie you need to watch. I like mystery/thrillers, it's one of my favorite kind of genres, and most of the time you kinda figure out what happened before the end. But with El Cuerpo I didn't see it coming in a million years. And that's what makes this movie stand above the rest. Besides a good story, you of course need also good actors and good filming. Well all those ingredients are present in this movie. From the beginning till the end you are captivated by the story and wonder what really happened, with the end as the absolute climax. I will for sure watch this movie again in the future in the hope that I forgot about the story even though it's gonna be difficult. Highly recommended!
