I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

'Tango & Cash (1989)' is a cheesy 80s movie, for sure, despite being released at the very end of that decade. While it's choppily edited (thanks, in part, due to its heavy initial censorship at the hands of the BBFC) and most of its silly set-pieces are essentially stolen from other, more successful attempts (mostly Jackie Chan's 'Police Story (1985)'), the piece provides the somewhat schlocky but still sort of undeniable fun you'd expect from such a picture. This is mainly due to the light tone and legitimate chemistry between its two stars - who both play refreshingly cheerful and slightly self-aware parts, especially when compared to Stallone's usually stone-faced repertoire. The production problems soon start to show, though, and the fun only stretches so far to cover-up the flick's fairly haphazard feel. The stupid plot-points and hammy acting (from essentially all except the leads) perforate most scenes to the point that you couldn't exactly call any of it technically 'good'. Yet, there's always that gnawing yet knowing sense that you're irreverently enjoying it, to an extent, despite all this. To be honest, that's the main thing. 6/10

Personally, I like my action films to be either serious or unintentionally funny (as is the case when it comes to a lot of Italian action films). Sometimes they make action films which are INTENTIONALLY funny, and then the trouble starts. TANGO & CASH is one of these films, packed with awful jokes and low brow buddy-buddy type humour which is set to appeal to the lowest of the low. If they'd had got rid of all this stupid humour I would have enjoyed the film more for what it really is, a standard and predictable action-fest packed with hundreds of explosions and all kinds of stunts. It's a shame that this film is so disappointing, as visually its well made and looks very nice and colourful. There's a good supporting cast too; Jack Palance is wasted as the chief villain through a lack of screen time. Also, what the heck is it with his continuous smile? It looks like he can't take a thing seriously. Also appearing in a genuinely amusing role is the ever-dependable Brion James as a Cockney (!) villain who cuts throats with a straight-razor. James chews scenery with a hilarious accent and is one of the best things in this film. Teri Hatcher (before she was famous) is the love interest and is treated as a sex object throughout - it figures as she's cast as a stripper! Also look out for familiar faces in Michael J. Pollard, James Hong (typecast as Japanese villains forever) and Robert Z'Dar, the unforgettable face of the MANIAC COP.Stallone and Russell are both okay in this movie and are physically in great shape, with lots of fights and action between them, but their roles don't exactly stretch the actors and this movie is far from either actor's best. Another thing I hated was the ending, which throws in tons of explosions and shooting and makes the whole thing look fake and stupid, going over the top big time. There is a limit to how many explosions you can have, guys! TANGO & CASH is a typical slick, noisy, lame brained, predictable Hollywood vehicle which passes the time but is easy to forget about afterwards, and it offers up nothing we haven't seen before.

Two cops are framed and must clear their names. Although Tango & Cash doesn't hold up as it might used to years ago with it's humor the soundtrack, the chemistry between Stallone and Russell but also the action itself does the job pretty well with some cool references to movies such as Conan The Barbarian and Jaws but also the iconic one liner "Rambo is a P*ssy" which is still hilarious years after the film does hold up in terms of it's 80's magic which is the hairstyle and the characters who are very good but also Jack Palance and Brion James as the villains of the movie is something that worked very well for it's time of release and even tho as i said it doesn't hold up as it might used to it's still one hell of a Stallone Flick and it definitely gets an 8/10.

Sly and Kurt bring down the thunder in this 80's buddy cop classic. As far as action/comedies go I regard Tango And Cash as one of the best. Tango And Cash are LA supercops that get set up by a narcotics kingpin. They escape from prison, bust some heads, shoot many bad guys and crack a lot of jokes. While this is par for course for the genre, this was done well and of course Kurt and Sly are fantastic. The support cast is super solid with Teri Hatcher as Ray Tango's gorgeous sister as well as Geoffrey Lewis, Brion James and Jack Palance as main super villain. In the beginning of the film there is Sly's homage to Police Story. For those that don't know, Sly is an admirer of Jackie Chan's work and they are real good friends as well. Anyway you slice it Tango And Cash rock the house and is a timeless action classic!
