Wow! Such a good movie.
... View Moreone of my absolute favorites!
... View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
... View MoreThe storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
... View More"Studie Nr. 9" or "Study No. 9" is another one of German filmmaker Oskar Fischinger's films from the "Study" series. This one has sound, but no color yet. We hear a classical piece and see the shapes and structures in this 3-minute black-and-white film move to the rhythm as if they are dancing really. I must say I like most of Fischinger's other work better. In terms of the animation, this is actually really weak for a 1930s short film i must say and this music, well.. it is not his achievement. I also somehow do not really like the idea of relying on another artist's work and create a film around it. The visual side (maybe the story) should always be the core of a film and this one here would not have existed without Brahms' work. I think if you decide to just listen to the record, you will have at least the same experience as from watching this film, maybe an even better one. I don't recommend the watch.
