It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
... View MoreA film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
... View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

... View MoreOf course the original can't be improved upon and many ask why did they decide to touch a classic film...and why just do a "black version"? That aside, I decided to look at the film as its own instead of comparing it to the original while keeping tabs about it more as a companion film So, most of us know the characters from the original we loved so much. Six wonderful women and their lives. Casting here is amazing and Queen Latifah is an amazing M'Lynn. She plays the strong woman who has that moment of realness later in the movie and this one for me is great. I think she pulls it off well Phylicia Rashad's Clairee is just stellar, and Alfre Woodard's Ouisie is very funny...the two together are just great Rounding out the cast with Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad the latter 2 being young ladies they really did a great job as their respective characters. I liked Jill Scott as the very sweet woman who just wants her man's attentionAll in all, while it's nearly a spot for spot of the original I enjoyed it because they had women that I related to that could have been my sister, Mom or Grandma 8 out of 10 stars all its own
... View MoreI loved it Had me crying & laughing! Wonderful movie, great strong actresses! I am a big Fan of Queen Latifah & Alfre Woodard! And, enjoy Phylicia Rashad & Jill Scott. I thought they portrayed their charters beautifully! And, the relationship between the women & the men was funny!I think too many people get caught up in it having to be THE 1989 version. I like that it was up to date for todays audience, because truthfully the 1989 version does not appeal or have relevance to 2012. I like the original, I am not a die hard fan that has to put it on whenever I see it, I liked it the first time around but find it a bit stale for over & over again. I actually will leave it on if there is nothing else on. It never got me like this one. I will be putting this one on whoever I see it in the guide. I Love Classic Movies & enjoy them from the 30's, 40's 50's. unto the present. But, not every movie is the Best Ever! They guy that wrote the original wanted to see it with an all African American cast & why not?Again I Loved It!
... View MoreSorry, but this movie was bad. I mean really bad. The first movie was lighthearted and uplifting for the most part, making you feel proud of being a Southerner. This one was dark and depressing, and felt more like it was filmed in New York instead of Louisiana. All of the idiosyncrasies and accents that made the original truly Southern were barely existent here.Alfre Woodard's portrayal of Weezer was more angry than eccentric. Felicia Rashaad's "Clerice" was too reserved. The girl who played the beauty shop assistant was not naive and unrefined enough. In closing, I love the over the top nature of black comedies in general, and considering the cast that was present, I really expected better. They really did this movie a huge disservice.
... View MoreThe original movie shows a much stronger bond and relationship between the cast. The banter in the original is so natural and funny, the whole cast is cute and hilarious. I love the idea of an update and I love the cast. Phylicia Rashad is a wonderful actress, Alfre Woodard is a favorite since Hearts & Souls and Grand Canyon. I watch every Queen Latifah movie that comes out. The problem with the movie is that there was no real feeling in the acting. The lines were said and tears were in the eyes but there just wasn't the same sense of love and camaraderie that you felt in every scene in the 1989 version. Key points that bugged me: -Shelby 1989 was cute, lovable and exuberant, Shelby 2013 was muted and plain -M'lynne 1989 was tough and loving, M'lynne 2013 was loving but seemingly already defeated. -The relationship between Truvy, Ouiser, Clairee and Annelle is much more developed in the original. They seem to have so much fun. Ouiser and Clairee have the best banter ever. In the remake they just have no chemistry. -In the remake the relationship between Truvy and her husband Spud is never resolved which is one of my favorite stories in the original. -The love hate relationship between Ouiser and Drum is hilarious in 1989 but the 2013 version it was just never developed. -And finally, most importantly, the climax that sally field absolutely nailed in the original and the supporting cast made one the the most memorable scenes in cinematic history was not redone with the proper care in my opinion. I mean you basically remake a movie scene for scene and then ruin the climax? What? There is more but...Queen, Phylicia, Alfre I still love you but at the end of the day the original cast knocked this play out of the ballpark and it is a hard act to follow.
