Good concept, poorly executed.

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

In every damn scene, in every location, even miles under the freaking sea, it looks stupid and is really distracting because all I could think about was that Bette Midler song from Beaches and the line "To never have sunlight on your face" which if in an alternate universe was part of the Sky Craptain soundtrack would be rewritten as "To ALWAYS have sunlight on your face". Now Beaches despite it being overrated by so many is relatively good and worth watching maybe once but I can't say the same for Sky Craptain and the World of Tomorrow. It is pure garbage of the smelliest kind. Avoid, it will give you eye cancer... and nose cancer.

Sky Captain is a loving distillation of 1930s serials into an enjoyable, beautiful, intriguing, fun film that never takes itself serious but is ultimately mindless. And that's what such films should be. In my opinion this is far and away the best of it's type, far surpassing the Marvel and Transformer spectacles. While adopting many of the plot points and action sequences of serials it still manages to look fresh and surprising. While I haven't the time or energy to review all of the previous posts, it surprised me that many criticized the use of color. One even said it was adopting the colorized look of the 1970s. You'll notice that the only part of the film that had true color was The Wizard of Oz showing on the Radio City Music Hall screen. In point of fact the film was a deliberate attempt to copy the look of two-strip Technicolor which was used up to 1935. As a fan of this look I go out of my way to find such films. Sky Captain succeeded admirably in copying it.Much criticism is lodged about the lack of sparks between the principals. This also is in keeping with serials where the only clinch was the closing scene. Instead, the rivalry between investigator and reporter with lots of wisecracking copies the feel beautifully. While all of this has become hackneyed from decades of use, it is handled well and intelligently. The CGI is used with care and as an adjunct to the plot. Small details keep popping up that will require multiple viewings to assimilate. This is a film for film fans. I consider it a classic.

So let me get this straight: After New York City receives a series of attacks from giant flying robots, a reporter teams up with a pilot in search of their origin, as well as the reason for the disappearances of famous scientists around the world. Okay, got it. This is a story about a place most people might not be able to conceive: where things are dying, where people survive off liquor and stale food, where those who are supposed to love us drive knives into our backs. There are fisticuffs back and forth with those who claim to work for justice. It is very light-hearted and it isn't complex at all as all the characters struggle against a system that has perpetuated many falsehoods.

Simply awful, what has started as a very promising movie with some nice new sic-fi ideas ended up as one of those Cheeseburger/Cowboy movies, full of clichés and non-logical events, dialog (oh specially that one, it simply can't get worse) and even story, that can't be considered Sci-Fi, it is a cheeseburger rubbish. The super cowboy who is super self confident and super brave and super "in control" who is also supposed to be super funny is - again - saving the world, of course while saving his own girl who is also super confident, super smart, super funny, and she is fighting entire armies without even breaking her high heals shoes !!! amazing ... keep on that Hollywood ... another 1 out of 10 movie, just because zero is not available.
