Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

a film about life. like a manifesto. no compromises. almost, no story. only a confession. and two splendid performances of Romane Bohringer and Cyrill Collard in a film who propose questions, doubts, pain and a love story who becomes the lead message. and this is the motif for admire it. for the atmosphere and for the cruel-precise perspective about existence, HIV and need to conquest each step of survive against yourself. a film far to be comfortable, dark and strange and too, too direct in its deep, large honesty.

Les Nuits Fauves/savage nights: for those of you who are maybe not accustomed to watching world cinema, i wouldn't advise you view this as your first taster! Most of you who have an A-level in French may know this one......Although far from a pleasant plot, the film's excellent cinematography and use of rich, vivid dream sequences, more than makes up for the lack of inter-character development. What makes this film more tragic is the fact that its main star (and director)also a bisexual 'free spirit', had a somewhat similar end to his life, dying from an HIV related illness just one year after the movie was released. i think this adds to the whole feeling of the film - as you watch his respective lovers (one male, one a teenage girl) desperately try to hold his admiration and attention, you almost forget that the main character himself is trying to come to terms with his own eventual demise. although a serious subject, the carefree attitude of the main man leaves a sense of Hope.

Jean finds out that he's HIV positive, then meets a very desirable girl and a very desirable boy. He's not only wrecking his own life, but starts destroying theirs too. They fight over him and take stupid risks to show their love for him. very convincing performances, and an intriguing social study.Carlos is impossibly sexy as the male love interest Samy, and, although I'm no judge, the woman Laura is also very attractive.

I saw this movie many years ago and it is still vivid in my mind--it captures the intensity and heedlessness of erotic impulses. Cyril Collard (writer, director, lead actor, and real-life protagonist)is beautiful and clearly put all of his being, not only his talent as a filmmaker, into this movie.
