I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

Serious poet Aman (Sanjay Dutt) and irresponsible playboy Akash (Salman Khan) have been best friends since they were children, and were raised as brothers. When both fall in love with the same girl (Madhuri Dixit), sacrifices must be made, hearts broken, and friendship tested. Both Dutt and Khan are excellent in their roles; the emotions they display later in the film are convincing. Dixit is a delight as always, both playful and serious. There are many musical numbers, with some lovely songs, but very little in the way of choreography. The plot, while familiar, is still engaging and moving. All in all, it's typical Bollywood--but that is a plus.

Love triangles have been done to death ever since time immemorial. films like SANGAM and many more have shown love triangles and many have worked too. SAAJAN released in 1991 was one of those but here there was a difference. In this film one of the character is a crippled poet. The film starts like a typical Hindi film where a small boy who is crippled is tortured by some bullies and then saved by child artist who of course become friends. The guy who saves is a rich guy son of Kader Khan and Reema Lagoo who have a hotel business. The son at tender age is shown peeping under the chair at legs of a women, Reema also catches her hubby and child under the table. The film then shifts many years ahead, the crippled poet has become Sanjay Dutt and the other guy is predictably Salman Khan. In a funny scene it is shown that Sanju gets a trophy in college while Salman says he got a plate.(Woh cup laya main plate) Sanju is also a poet who writes poetry and has a name Sagar and hides it from the world. One of his admirers is Pooja(Madhuri) who falls for him through his poetry. Another funny scene in the movie is when Salman fakes that he is blind and gets bashed by many girls while on the other side Kader Khan is raving about his sons to Dinesh Hingoo. Sanju is sent to Ooty, where he meets Madhuri and then falls in love with her. Things go on well. Sanju and Madhuri scenes are fabulous in between some funny scenes like the hotel whose owner says his hotel doesn't sell first class tea but all teas are in the name of lord ram. Madhuri realizes that Sanju is Sagar's friend and hence becomes friends with him. There is a brilliant scene in the church where Sanju breaks down after he gets bashed up when Tej Sapru and his goons attack Madz and a inspector reprimands him that he cant take care of himself only Laxmikant Berde too has funny scenes where he plays a south Indian guy who takes care of the house in Ooty. Salman too follows Sanju and reaches Ooty and predictably meets Madhuri. The rest of the story follows as usual wherein at interval point Sanju realizes that Salman too loves Madhuri and then he decides to sacrifice for him. Salman then becomes Sagar and then falls for Madhuri and towards the end realizes Sanju's plan and then the climax. Drawbacks of the movie: Length(19 reels 3 hours) is too long but those days films were long, Also too many songs and some scenes are overtly dramatic Direction by Lawrence Dsouza is fabulous, he handles the love triangle very well. Sadly he couldn't leave up to the success and gave more bombs later like AARZOO(4-5 years in making). Music by Nadeem Shravan is a big plus. Almost every song became famous and all are shot fantastically. The first song Bahot Pyaar Karte Hai(picturised on Madz) is brilliantly picturised. Mera Dil Bhi became a big hit and is still remembered. Rendered by their fav Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. Tu Shayar Hai by Alka too is one of the most remembered songs of Madz. Tumse Milne by S.P.Balasubramanyam(voice of Sallu in early 90s), Bahot Pyaar karte hai(male), Pehle baar mile hai and the title song are fabulous. both versions of Jeeye to Jeeye Kaise are fabulous, one on all 3 of them and one on Pankaj Uddas. Dialogues are fab, especially the shayri Sanjay Dutt in early 90s had an image of an action hero but in this film he plays a subdued crippled poet and acts very well. He conveys emotions, dejection, pathos all convincingly. Though he has come a long way now. Madhuri looks beautiful and acts well in her role Salman Khan plays his by now famous playboy role well. this was his 4th or 5th film, he renders an effective charm and like his early 90 days though he is uncomfortable in dramatic and emotional scenes like in those days yet he is full of life and exhuberant. amongst rest Kader Khan provides some funny moments and a good supporting act Reema Lagoo though few years older then Sallu and one year to Sanju acts well Laxmikant Berde is superb as usual rest are all typecast Ekta(Mohinish's real wife) is good in a small roleTrivia: the film according to buzz was completed in 37 days which is a record for any film.

This has to be one of my personal favourite film from the 90's era. I loved the music, just everything was great, and my mum loves the film too.Madhuri Dixit, god i rememberer watching her when i was like 7 years old, and when i saw her i was like, she is so beautiful i wish i could be like her when grew up, anyway back to reality she looked amazing in this film, acted really well and danced beautifully.Sanjay Dutt is a great actor, there can never be no one like him in bollywood and their never will be, he truly is one of a kind and i love him so much as an actor, he can show true emotion like he did in Shabd, wow he amazes me in every film, Salman Khan was also brilliant in the film, all 3 of these great actor were so cute back then and look hot as ever now, overall this is a classic. please do watch it.
