R30 captures the band's $21-million grossing, sell-out 30th Anniversary World Tour and was filmed with 14 hi-definition cameras in 16x9 widescreen format at the Festhalle, Frankfurt Germany on September 24, 2004. The set list spans the band's diverse 30-year career, and includes fan favorites "Xanadu," "The Spirit of Radio," "Working Man," "Tom Sawyer," "Subdivisions," "Earthshine," "2112," "Limelight," "Between the Wheels," which hasn't been performed live in 20 years as well as tracks from 2004's covers EP Feedback, including "Summertime Blues" and "Crossroads." Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

I've always been partial to "R30" because it's got my favorite performance of 'Force Ten'. That's the song that ultimately drew me to Rush in the first place, and my love for that bass line will never die. It's crisp, clean and electrifying. But that just explains my personal bias. This is a Rush concert, after all, which means it opens like a beast with a sweeping overture and sets right to work on the diverse set list. Just as you'd expect. They even throw in a solid cover of The Who's 'The Seeker' for good measure. The band's signature precision is on full display during every minute of this thing. The production values are first-rate, too (some of the camera moves are very nice). They really put together a nice package.10/10

I saw RUSH live in Chicago during this tour. This DVD captures the very best of that concert. The opening medley contains songs not heard live for years (including A Farewell to Kings and A Passage to Bangkok) Every time I watch this disk, I am awed by the musical virtuosity of Geddy, Alex, and Neil. The addition of the cover songs off of "Feedback" was, at the very least, brilliant. To pay homage to the bands they started out, in their infancy, covering in small clubs and bars was one of the highlights of this show. The sight of Alex tweaking Geddy's nose at the end of "The Seeker" is one of the reasons I keep replaying this DVD."Between the Wheels" was as much of a pleasant surprise as the absence of "The Trees" was a disappointment, but one must take the bad with the good.As someone said before me, just because you have "Rush in Rio" is no reason to not have this disk. I prefer the light show in this DVD to RIR, plus I like "Der Trommler" better than "Oh Batterista" (for which Neil garnered a Grammy nomination).Simply put, if you are a RUSH fan, this is a must have video.

This DVD is great. First, don't think since you have Rush in Rio you don't need this one. The quality, set list, and extras are all better. Though there are some songs missing(the 8 or so they didn't put in, plus some other favourites we would've liked to hear) the number of old songs they played totally make up for it. I wanted to see closer to the heart played, but putting the tsunami relief closer to the heart PLAYED WITH BUBBLES totally makes up for it. I don't know how some people rate this lower than Rush in Rio, it is much better. It does lack songs like YYZ, closer to the heart, one little victory, secret touch, freewill, new world man, natural science and la villa, but classic songs like Xanadu, the R30 Overture, mystic rhythms, red barchetta, between the wheels, and subdivisions totally make up for it. Also the older videos on the second disc like la villa, Xanadu, fly by night, closer to the heart, and freewill are an excellent addition to an already spectacular DVD.There was less audience interference in this one, which made a lot of the songs sound better, but made some of them a bit less enthralling. 2112 was an example of this. in R30 its much more precise and whole, but in Rio it was much more powerful with thousand of fans jumping and shouting. The acoustic addition of heart full of soul went great with resist. I prefer the R30 heart full of soul better than the studio version. The quality of playing by all 3 members was better than in Rio. Some say Geddy cant sing like he used to, but i find his vocals better now. The high pitched wailing was awesome, but didn't suit everyone. His voice is a lot more calm and enjoyable now. Alex and Neil were a bit off in their timing in Rio, but they are both spot on here. Der Trommler is by far better than O Baterista(though many of you probably wont see any real difference)The deluxe edition also comes with the concert on 2 Cd's, which is great, so you don't have to purchase a whole other album to listen to it in your stereo.I find this the closest thing to a perfect rush album you can get, and encourage everyone to purchase it.

R30 captures some great performances and a whole lot of energy. It is recorded in hi-def and with great sound quality. Standout performances are found throughout the concert, but especially on Subdivisions, Red Barchetta, Earthshine, Xanadu, and Between The Wheels.Go out and get it if you are a fan from their 80's-era, or if you're new to the band and learned about them from their more recent releases. The recording focuses more on capturing the great light show as well as showcasing clear sound quality. Geddy's voice is front and center (unlike the recent "Rush In Rio" DVD) and the audience-level is rather subdued.R30 is a "10" !
