... View MoreA great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
... View More"Revelation" did have potential, I will say that much. But it ultimately failed to be captivating nor particularly interesting. Perhaps it was the direction of Stuart Urban or the almost two hours of prolonged suffering, or maybe even both.Parts of the story were alright, but at almost two hours then there were just too much filling in blank time with pointless footage that slowed the movie down more than it promoted it. But overall it was just not worth the effort.I picked up this movie because Udo Kier was in it, but this wasn't his best movie, not by a long shot. But he did add that usual villainous element to the movie, as he usually does. Terrence Stamp did a good job, although his role was relatively small. It was also a treat to see Liam Cunningham in the movie. The blurred and distorted shadowy flashes in the movie didn't add an element of the supernatural. No, they just made the movie laughable and ridiculous. If you enjoy thrillers then I wouldn't suggest that you spend almost two hours on "Revelation". It simply just isn't worth the effort.
... View MoreI'd give this a seven out of ten, just to spite the people that have hacked it to death. Yes the movie is cliché, but the "Da Vinci Code" was also cliché & as a historian I can say that it is a very old cliché. But like anything that has been around that long, it's still there because it has stood the test of time. It's a story you've probably heard before, but at the least it's an entertaining story.I took the wrong type of job, I work in academia, I have to deal with friends that go see the latest art house films. I have to read long in depth historical analysis by people that want to be avante garde & still remain politically correct. That being said, if I can come across a book or a movie that does nothing but entertain me, I'll give it props."Revelation" is entertaining & it's entertaining throughout. It has it's great conspiracy moments, it's narrow escapes, it's cheesy special effects, and enough fun to keep you watching. I'll openly agree that some things could have been better, but then "The Da Vinci Code," was shot better & had better acting, but wasn't nearly as entertaining.I had a great time watching this, it's the type of movie I stayed up late to catch on HBO when I was a kid. Sure, I would have absolutely loved it when I was ten but I still liked it when it came out when I was twenty-one. Not many movies can do that, save "The Monster Squad," and "Goonies," but those are both movies of a far higher caliber.
... View MoreThis movie, Revelation, is a conspiracy suspense, which is already a bad start. But the movie could be a bit better without the clichés. Of course, the actors are not superb (the main couple, in fact, is very weak) and the general plot is not innovative, but what concerns me most is the clichés. Any movie that links Knights Templars, Freemasonry and a great secret about Christ deserves to lose at least two stars in any evaluation, because if the person that wrote the plot could not think in something more original, he doesn't deserve much praise. The symbolisms and the "magical" link between the main characters doesn't help either, being cliché at its worst. And the end of the movie is not good as well, maybe because they wanted to continue it and leave it somewhat open. There are some good scenes and ideas scattered in the plot, but the bad ideas and clichés overwhelm them, unfortunately.Maybe the most interesting thing about this movie is that Da Vinci Code is a blatant rip-off of Revelation, but that doesn't save the movie. Only recommended for people who love conspiracies.
... View MoreI found the movie to have a nice pace and allowed the viewer to follow along without getting lost. While there was a lot of information and background to set up the story they did a nice job of getting you up to speed without overwhelming you at the beginning as some movies can.The acting could have been better as I have seen all of the main actors before but I don't think it mattered here. The story didn't demand that you fall in love with the performance just that you believed what they were trying to say and I did. I thought the way it was shot (kind of a low budget indie feel) added to the story as it wasn't over produced which can take away from the movie. It kind of looked like a period piece in contemporary times which worked here. I liked the look of the film, the locations shots were very attractive and didn't overpower the atmosphere and draw you away from the story. With bible themed movies popular again I thought they did a good job telling the story without being preachy or two far fetched. No surprise it didn't win any awards but for a nicely paced movie with a great villain and good looking actors worth the price of a rental.
