It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

As a vampire fan, I was really disappointed by this because it would've been so brilliant if they didn't make a mock up of the story. By seeing the other actors including Aaliyah looking particularly confused on what their characters were suppose to do, this made the whole film flop. Not to mention, the storyline involving the female version of Dracula seducing what should've been Tom Cruises character Lestat, didn't give the whole story a chance. Maybe if it was just about the Vampire queen and she falls in love with a human woman or man, it would've been 10 times better! Although it would be a copycat of Dracula, but in my opinion, it could work out that way and have the film become successful!I really wish I have given this 10 stars but it just left me displeased with it unfortunately so thats why Im giving it 4 stars. Again, it honestly needed to be better!

Whereas Neil Jordan's Interview with a Vampire was baroque, overlong and filled with 'A' listers or potential 'A' listers.Queen of the Damned on the other hand contains 'B' listers or those who never even reached those heady heights. It is a Goth Rock horror film. Vampire Lestat (Stuart Townsend) awakes from a long nap into a changed world and becomes a rock star as we enter the world of Goth clubs where he constantly gets attacked by other vampires.A paranormal librarian investigates this new rock singer believing him to be a vampire and an ancient Egyptian queen comes back to life, awaken by Lestat's music. The film is just poorly plotted and uninteresting. It lacks the budget and imagination Jordan brought to the first film and it really is sloppy seconds without any of the camp.

This is a sequel to Interview with a vampire. It is just what we need. Another vampire movie written by Ann Rice not. Interview with a vampire is an awful movie. And this is worst. The evil vampire Lestat became a rock star. Come on that is campy. An evil vampire becomes a rock star. I do not care how mush blood and gore this in this movie. That is really campy. The story line in this movie is awful. There are some good actors in it. But what a waste for there time. How did this get a 5.2. This movie is so stupid. I am running out of things to say and I need more lines. Do not waste your time. Do not waste your money. Do not see this awful movie.

First off let me say that I have never read either of the books that this movie was inspired by. In fact Memnoch The Devil is the only Anne Rice Book that I've ever read. However, after watching Queen of the Damned for the first time now, nearly 12 years after is release, I am intrigued by it's premise and will make time to go back and read both books. As for the movie, it is a middling affair. There are many positives, among them are Stuart Townsend's portrayal of Lestat, Aaliyah as Akasha, fantastic songs written specifically for the movie and a few stylistic flourishes here and there. I absolutely bought in to Lestat's hard rock persona. On a lesser note I couldn't help but make involuntary comparisons to Interview with a Vampire. Needless to say THAT is a better movie. Yet this movie could have been much closer in quality had some more elaborate choices been made in regards to special effects, a moodier screenplay and a greater focus on detail in general. There is absolutely zero tension or suspense in this film in thanks partially to it's metal music overload. I like the songs yet I feel that the dramatic scenes would have been better served with a more brooding or sinister soundtrack. Also, the climax was a bit rushed or underwhelming or trivialized. Not bad though.
