I have absolutely never seen anything like this movie before. You have to see this movie.
... View MoreThe film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
... View MoreI wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
... View MoreExcellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
... View MoreA-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."Playback" (R - 2012 - US)Sub-Genre: Paranormal/Ghost My Score: 5.0Cast=6 Acting=4 Plot=7 Ending=4 Story=4 Scare=4 Jump=5 F/X=6 Creep=6 Twist=4A cop investigates the case of a missing local teen, though he discovers a dark secret that has been unleashed in his town, and an evil spirit that will stop at nothing to find its heir. "This is destiny...and you get to be a part of it." This movie set the record for lowest box office gross of all time...$252. It's no bigger than a meh, but it's better than it's total in the theater. It action has a good premise and is decently creepy...trouble is the story was written in crayon and you can see the twist coming from a mile off. If you can see the forest through the trees, this would be an ok watch with no expectations. Otherwise I do not recommend it.
... View MoreIf you read some of the reviews for Playback, you may notice it receives more than its fair share of negativity. In some ways it deserves it, in others it doesn't. A lot of the criticism comes from how it's been sold. If you read the blurb, you'll see it mentions an 'ex cop (played by Christian Slater) investigating a mysterious killer.' This is simply not true. For a start, Christian Slater's part in this film is little more than an extended cameo and it seems to be a blatant attempt by the studio/promoters to do their best at cashing in on the one and only (semi) big name attached to the project. The film is actually about a group of teenagers who are trying to make their own horror film when they stumble on a particularly nasty supernatural force that links back to their town's past. In many ways, Playback is little more than a (supernatural) slasher film that loosely borrows from superior works like The Ring. You may even forget that Christian Slater is in the film because his character has so little to do.Playback is okay. If you can ignore its miss-selling and are just looking for a run-of-the-mill horror to fill an hour and a half, then this one will probably do. Yes, there are a fair few unexplained bits that may leave you with a question mark or two over your head, but, like I say, it's far from perfect, but it just about makes the grade.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
... View More"Jumpy Horror" was probably the reason why I watched this film, and also it was free on my Sky so what the hey!I must say, it's definitely not the worst film I've ever seen. I wouldn't say it was straight- to-TV stuff either. Handy to have on in the background while you do the ironing, or some knitting or whatever. Absolutely not 'jumpy'. There are maybe 3 bits where you have a bit of a flinch but you quickly see that nothing interesting has happened. The idea of this film has been done far too many times. Some form of demon/Satan/zombie wants to possess sexy teenagers (who wouldn't) and he chooses to do so via video?? It doesn't make a massive lot of sense, so don't watch it for the plot, as it is riddled with holes and quite pointless! My questions would be: (possible spoilers)Why!?? Just, why?? There is no explanation as to why this thing wants to possess people. Why does it possess people via video? Surely possessing teens in person is easier? Why has nobody noticed that there are loads of murdered kids everywhere? Why is christen bale (sorry, slater) such a pervert?? And why does he perve over girls on school grounds? Must have been a quiet day at the office.Anywho, not the worst film I've ever seen, but down there with quite a few other teenage 'horrors' I would have enjoyed it age 13 possibly!
... View MoreThis is my first review here on IMDb, I saw this movie yesterday and it was so stupid but so stupid! It was full of clichés and a predictable story! Some things didn't even make sense. I won't spoil anything if you want to see it, one thing that made me want to watch this movie was slater but not even him could save this movie! Seriously I knew how the movie was going to end when they started doing investigation. And they changed the camera angles from some shots when they showed them a second time, you'll see what I mean towards the end. If you see it try to catch all the clichés... I actually wished that I would have decided not to see it! There is actually one part on the movie that he is supposed to be filming with his phone and the screen turns black and he just keeps going. The only good thing about this movie is the girls that's why I gave it a 2/10. I'm 19 years old...
