The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

We've all been there. We've all been in the situation where either us or one of our friends has broken up with someone they've been with for a pretty significantly long time. "Now You Know", the writing and directing debut from Jeff Anderson, better known perhaps as Randal from the "Clerks" films, deals with a familiar situation but through characters and settings which we don't see much in Hollywood films. The movie is well-intentioned, it's aiming to capture the same sort of relaxed, conversational tone a Kevin Smith film has, with significantly fewer raunchy gags. The movie is a romantic comedy, but even though everything turns out fine for the characters, it's still not easy getting there, and the movie's not nearly as predictable as most rom-coms, so it's pretty enjoyable overall. The reason "Now You Know" failed to end up being a movie I can wholeheartedly recommend is that it's not really significantly funnier or significantly more enjoyable than spending a day with a friend after a situation like the one depicted in this film occurs. In fact, it's almost exactly like that. Kevin Smith can write movies where the dialogue reminds you almost word-for-word of conversations you have had, particularly if you've worked the sort of jobs his characters have done, and have similar interests, but what I realize now is that Smith's movies consist entirely of the best sort of real-life conversations. You would have to have had an insanely good day to have it reflect the events of a Kevin Smith movie. With "Now You Know", Jeff Anderson follows a fairly similar formula to Smith's work, which is why I'm mentioning Smith as much as I am. The problem with this movie is that while it has some of those wonderful conversations, it also has a lot of the sort of conversations you wouldn't bother remembering. As a slice of real life, it absolutely works, but there needs to be something else there, and I guess I was never invested in any characters here outside of Jeremy, our lead male character.Another issue I had with the film was the depiction of women. I wouldn't say the movie was misogynist at all, but it plays like something a man who hasn't been around women much thinks they act in private. While the male conversations and those between females and males ring true, the dialogue between the lead two female characters feels stilted and expository.Still, the movie is ultimately enjoyable perhaps because it captures the experience the characters are going through so genuinely. Also, Jeff Anderson appears to have a natural talent when it comes to directing, as his small-scale, low-budget first film looks as good as most bigger-budget romantic comedies. Credit to the DP too I suppose. The movie doesn't look great, but considering its budget it's not bad. There's some naff acting as well, I suppose, but the cast are ultimately believable and anyone who has any interest at all in Jeff Anderson should probably see this movie. I don't think it's a great debut, but it's promising enough and I'd find myself looking forward to anything he does in the future. 6/10

Well worth the apparently 1000 mile pilgrimage I made to Vulgarthon '05 in LA/Hollywood!!! Don't mistakenly believe this is a chick flick. It may be romantic comedy, but it's really FUNNY romantic comedy!!! Its romantic parts are VERY romantic, and it's comedy is, like I said, very funny!!! NOW YOU KNOW is enjoyable from start to finish. Kerri and Jeremy (Rashida Jones and Jeremy Sisto) have been in love since high school, and have been friends longer than that. Their wedding is coming up, but inexplicably, Kerri calls of the engagement. Something went wrong, and it's not clear. Surely a couple who went to college together and even moved to Las Vegas from New Jersey together would have the kind of perfect relationship we all dream about, with perfect communication, perfect problem resolution, etc. But no, something has gone wrong. And because we don't know the whole story, it's easy to take sides. Look at Marty!!! I found myself siding with Jeremy, thinking, God, what a whiner she is!!! He's great and she's whining about flowers and the L word not being said enough!!! As the film progresses, Kerri, at first a grating character (to me anyway) becomes more understood. If not for the intervention of a funny, witty Heather Paige Kent as Marty, though, "Kerri" could easily have turned NOW YOU KNOW into an irritating chick flick. Cliffy the kid brother was funny too!!! While Kerri and Marty tell each other their woes, Jeremy gets involved with the hilarious "fun loving criminal" hijinks of his friends Gil (played by director Jeff Anderson) and Biscuit (Trevor Furhman). I at first thought the Gil and Biscuit team was going to be the sole provider of comedy for this film, because Sisto's character starts out so serious and melancholy, but as soon as these three get together, it's 100% fun!!! The conversations in the bar, and the break-ins that result in gunfire are hilarious, but Sisto also does well in scenes that have no sign of Gil and Biscuit. Once away from Kerri, he becomes a great comedic character that you don't spend the entire movie feeling sorry for/irritated at. I thought the Grandparents were cute (you never know what'll happen with grandparents on the scene!!!) and the "morning wood" sequence was priceless!!! And as I said above, the romance is pretty romantic. Some of the "I love you" scenes were overwhelmed by guitar music that didn't seem to add anything. The explanations that surfaced seemed fair and realistic and the ending was satisfying. There were no villains, no "battle of the sexes" stuff. It's just a very cute and enjoyable film about people who love each other so much that they think what they have is too good to be true and they're terrified of being hurt and committing themselves to something as huge as marriage.Okay, when's the DVD coming out???!!!

With the unsettling news of the end of the Jay and Silent Bob Era, this film brings hope to those fans of local Jersey humor. I was lucky enough to be in the first screening of Jeff Anderson's Now You Know his writing/directing debut at Vulgarthon this year, and it was quite the show. Now You Know is an Extreamly funny flick. 80's refrences, vulgar langueage, weird charrectors, and of course a few ViewAskew inside jokes and cameos thrown in here and there. It's defintely a comedy, but dig a little bit deeper and you come a cross a surprizingly personal piece. I can't wait for its release. If you are purely a Smith fanatic, well you'll see it no matter whats written, but you'll be rolling around laugh at his cameo in the Batchler party scene. If your interested in the plot heres a brief description: It's a story a guy trying to figure out What happened in his life. His marrage is called off just before the big day. And he is left to deal and break the news to his family and friends with no real reason why. Thrown in some weird and i mean weird frineds, landscaping accidents, crossdressers, botched batchlerparties, and a little B and E <breaking and entering for you non thugs out there and you have a film proud to bear the VA mark.
