The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.
... View MoreThe film may be flawed, but its message is not.
... View MoreNot sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
... View MoreYes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
... View MoreSome people just dont know how to laugh and go into movies expecting more than they should.Anyone going into this expecting it to be serious is just nuts, this is a National Lampoon movie after all, they are almost all spoofs of other movies and not meant to be taken seriously. This is a spoof of a long list of movies, including Gladiator, 300, Troy and Spartacus: Blood and Sand. There are others, but there are too many to mention. Will Sasso does his usual thing as the movies idiot, an inept Trojan general who got the job because he's married to the daughter of the senile old King Looney (Rip Torn). While not all the humour is laugh out load it is at least witty and I couldnt help laughing at some of the completely moronic parts. If you don't like gay jokes, this is one to avoid, the movie is littered with them along with lots of politically incorrect dialogue that might offend.I liked it and was amused for most of the 90 minutes it ran for.
... View MoreI have to admit, I was surprised that this movie wasn't as bad I thought it would be. Not that it is really good either, but it has some nice acting power behind it (not really looking at Ms. Lokken though). There's also a lot of nudity in it, just in case you were wondering. And the movie takes cues from many films of the recent past, including 300, but also Troy and the Spartacus TV show. The jokes are hit and miss mostly, but they are one thing: not really intelligent. And they don't have to be. This being just a spoof of one genre, it obviously would not want to expand on that. Still if you like "stupid jokes" and remarks, there are worse movies to watch than this
... View MoreNational Lampoon, "sword and sandal" movie. A parody mixture of 300, Gladiator and Troy to name a few while much better than Meet the Spartans it hasn't the original -in its own world setting - and is more spoof than comedy. Although packed with gags and crudeness it lacks the edge, wit and humorous balance of the likes of Your Highness. The leads including The Three Stooges (2012) Will Sasso and supporting cast are entertaining enough, rip Torn lights up the screen and lovely Kristanna Loken is a saving grace. With boobs, butts and lots of cursing teens will probably eat The Legend of Awesomest Maximus up. It's one of the better spoofs but by no means great.
... View MoreWell, this had potential, but it failed on an epic level, like oh so many of the previous National Lampoons movies. There haven't been any real noteworthy Lampoon movies since Chevy Chase did the "Vacation" movies, with one exception being perhaps the "Gold Diggers" movie. The story in "The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" is just another spoof off former major Hollywood movies, such as "Gladiator", "300" and "Troy". And it didn't fully work the way it was supposed to. I honestly didn't even laugh a single time throughout this entire movie. Now, I am not saying that everything is bad in this movie. The sets and the costumes, for example, were quite good and had lots of nice, cool details. And also the cast they had managed to get together for this movie project was also quite impressive. It was weird, but funny, to see Ian Ziering in the role of Testiclees, which was so far off the only thing I have otherwise seen him do in "Beverly Hills 90210". I don't get the hype about Kristanna Loken in this movie, it was not all that impressive. The role of Minoritees, played by Tony Cox, was one of the more memorable roles in the movies, right up alongside Khary Payton who played King Erotic. Now, what really blew me away in "The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" was the fact that they had managed to get Rip Torn on the cast list.Actually, the fight scenes were cool enough and had enough action to actually be worth sitting through, but "The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" suffered from a very weak storyline and the world didn't really need another spoof to make fun of "300".Having sat through the entire movie without a single laugh, I can honestly say that the movie is not one that I will be returning to watch a second time, it just doesn't have enough value for that. There were some nice things in the movie, but they were sparse and far apart. But hand on heart, this movie seemed like little more than an excuse to put scantily clad women, breasts and other nudity on the screen. And the language in the movie, wow! Right from the beginning there was cursing, foul language and really inappropriate words for minors. And those facts really dragged the points down on the review scale on my behalf.
