Excellent, a Must See
... View MoreI wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
... View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
... View MoreIt's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
... View MoreAs a brony, I was very excited for this film. when it came out, I saw it with my friend's mom and her youngest daughter(since no one else was willing to take me though my grandfather probably would have had I asked). I was not disappointed in the slightest. it's very easy for a movie based on a tv show to feel like just an extended episode(fingers crossed that the family guy movie doesn't go down this route) but luckily, this film avoids that and passes with flying colors. I doubt there will ever be a sequel since the end of the tv series is rapidly approaching but if for some reason there is, all I have to say is this...SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
... View MoreI haven't seen the series until 2 weeks before the movie came up. When it was announced, I had my complains since I never watch the show. Until a friend of my recommend me the series, I watch it and I absolutely like it for the way the make the story, the time line, the characters, the animation, the humor, the song, is a good series after all. And I was expecting the same whit the movie and... is just OK. Nothing great, nothing bad, just OK.Let's say the bad things: The writing is bad. Not as bad as Emoji Movie or The Star, or even LEGO Ninjago, just bad. What do I mean? The movie can be predictable and cliche. And that's a issue that even the series suffer. It has cliches like "The layer reveled", "The queen who doesn't help", "The main character using their friends for distraction so he/she can do something wrong" and "The main villain reveling he lied to somebody by using to do something and saying he won't do what he made". And maybe if they make fun of them, that would be fine, but they literally said what everything has said already. Another issue is some of the characters, like Micheal Peña voices Grubber, Tempest sidekick who doesn't do anything in the movie other than be whit Tempest and saying lame jokes and The Storm King, a sinister and stupid villain that wants to be funny and scary at the time and both failing whit some lame quotes and only appearing a little in the second act and giving him a main role in the climax. There are some jokes that are not funny apart of the jokes of the characters that I don't like. Like there's a joke referencing a game called "Hungry, Hungry, Hippos". Some characters are even pointless since they don't do anything like the princesses and some could be more helpful like Discord or Starlight or Quibble Pants. And finally, Twilight. I don not hate this character, I think she's decent in here since she's interesting and funny, but she doesn't have any development whit the new characters apart of Tempest in the end. She barley interacts whit them and that's it, she doesn't have any message or scene that discovers that she was wrong and apologies whit the new characters other than the Mane 5 and Spike. And in the end, you see Twilight whit the new characters and the movie makes you believe that they're friends, but I'm sorry, if there is not development, there is not friendship. Even more when she is literally THE PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP.OK, you might think that I hate this movie. Well, I don't. Like I said, is an OK film. I have seen this in theaters and the experience was OK, nothing remembering or shameless. I went whit my twin brother (Who has seen some episodes of the series and want it to watch this so he can't stop of watching CGI in animation for a while) and there were a few people out there, like 5 or 6 persons. To give it credit, it is funny actually. Not as hilarious as the series, but it is funny. There's a joke in the climax that made me laugh so hard that everyone in the theater also laugh hard, even my twin brother. The songs are pretty catchy and fun to hear like "We got this together", "Time to be awesome", "Open up your eyes" and "Off to see the world". It's a fun musical, but no the best. The animation is beautiful to look at it. The colors, the sets, the character animation, the movements, it has CGI fake in the backgrounds but they weren't annoying. Most of the characters are fun, even Twilight and some of the new are nice like Tempest, Capper and the pirates. The best parts of the movie are whit Rainbow Dash and Spike, when they speak and they said funny things, made me think, the movie worth watch in the theater. In the series, they are interesting characters, and here they're funny as hell giving some of the best lines in the film and every scene when they talk (Even Spike, the best character of the series) it was so good. The score made by Daniel Ingram is pretty good, I wish there's a score for hearing it all. The voice acting is great. The climax is fine. And this movie brings back what Walt Disney Pictures use to do. Maybe if this was released in the 80's I would forgive it, but since it released in 2017, there's nothing to said other than find his issues. So after all, the movie is fine. It's an OK film that bronys and pegasisters will love to death, it maneges what they want, some of the fans can be disappointing, it depends of their opinions. Maybe if the writing was more funny and less predictable and cliche, this could be a good movie, maybe a better one. But I know the director had fun, the writers had fun, everyone who made the film had fun, so I won't step back and said they ruined, it could be a lot worse. Maybe I was expecting more of it, but at least is not disappointing like the LEGO Ninjago Movie. If you had a girl or girls in general, they might love this movie, more if they're fans of the franchise. For everyone who hates My Little Pony, they're not force to look this as a obligated film to watch. For everyone else, if they're interest in it, I said good and check first the series made by Lauren Faust first so you can understand the world and the characters for it.
... View MoreI've heard so much of this movie at a panel at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, so I was curious to know what makes the hype grow so strongly among its committed fans. When I learned of familiar guest celebs involved like Zoe Saldana, Kristin Chenoweth, Emily Blunt, Taye Diggs, and Sia, I just had to see what makes it work. The story goes, in the land of Equestria, Twilight Sparkle has the duties of a princess in the Kingdom of Canterlot. But when a mysterious dark force lead by Tempest Shadow and the villainous Storm King invade the land, it's up to Twilight and her pony friends to venture outside their home to put a stop to the chaos and save the kingdom.Admittedly, I was never into its TV show from the very beginning, but thanks to some insight from my younger niece and a few fans I've met at the convention and social media, I've gained newfound respect for it. Since this movie derived from the 2010 TV series, it looks legitimately like an animated film and not an extended episode. I certainly don't regret watching every minute of it. Like it's leaning toward the quality Don Bluth once did with his animated films in the 80s.While big-name animation studios like Disney, DreamWorks, and Illumination are dominating at the box office with their CGI films, Lionsgate and Hasbro definitely released a flick that relies on the very animation medium that truly began over a century ago: Traditional 2-D. And the songs both lighthearted and dramatic began to remind me of the non-Disney animated titles I remember as a kid. I say no matter how old you are or what your interests may be, "My Little Pony: The Movie" is definitely a must-see for all because underneath its cute, whimsical exterior, there's a sense of morals that can pertain to real-life. Plot-wise it's not a perfect movie since the focus looks to be more about character and the situations they face. Whereas a not-so-threatening villain (most likely a way to attract newcomers to the series), but the guest voices delivered great performances right alongside the original main cast from the TV show. It's also noteworthy in seeing that 2-D is still pretty much alive in the animation field. Worth a look.
... View More"My Little Pony: The Movie" is a good send-off to the TV series, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", but it also has some weaknesses as well.Putting the more advanced-looking art style aside, and the great soundtracks, I'll be talking about the plot primarily, which is still good as a whole.Being the conclusion of the current MLP chapter, we look at whole of Equestria, especially Twilight Sparkle, preparing for the " Festival of Friendship", which was disrupted by an invasion by the Storm King's minions and henchmen. Naturally, everyone is enslaved, and all the princesses but Twilight are turned to stone. The latter is needed so that the Storm King, an ape-looking main villain of the movie, may use the alicorns' powers for himself. The main characters (Twilight, Spike, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack) manage to escape Canterlot via a waterfall and decided to find help. Twilight overhears Princess Celestia, her mentor, trying to summon the "Hippos", but this misunderstanding led to a series of events that came too quickly. The show took its time, usually two or more episodes, to look at each problem, villain, or new characters, so seeing characters like Capper, who tries to sell the ponies, allegedly taking them to the wrong hippos, on purpose to pay off his debts, all the way to meeting Griffin pirates working for the Storm King, against their will, felt a bit rushed.By the time both Capper and the pirates decided to purposely stall for time, so Twilight and friends can escape from the pirate ship, since the Storm King's minions showed up, the ponies finally find the real "hippos"... or "Hippogriff", horse creatures with fingers, wings, and beaks like birds. I thought that this part of the plot was interesting, especially with Twilight trying to talk to Queen Novo into helping the ponies take down the Storm King with her orb, to fooling her friends to keep Queen Novo busy so to secretly steal the orb... only for the friends, feeling betrayed, going on a shouting match with Twilight on the gloomy-looking sea side. With the ponies in bad mood, going their separate ways, Twilight is easily captured, with another weakness of the plot shown. Tempest Shadow, a bitter helper to the Storm King, is just another Starlight Glimmer, the TV series main villain from season 5. Both Tempest and Starlight had rough childhoods at the cost of their friends, grew up feeling bitter towards the idea of making any new friends... only for Twilight to put some senses into their heads, and welcome them to Equestria's growing circle of friendship. Otherwise, Tempest could have had the opportunity of being a memorable MLP villain. But, the main villain is, of course, the Storm King. It turns out that he dislikes everything about the ponies or "friendship", but very interested in obtaining the princesses' powers for himself. Even though he can now control the day and night, the movie doesn't go into details as to why the Storm King is the Storm King, or why he wanted the powers so badly, even lying that he'd be able to fix Tempest's broken horn. The Storm King, not just based on how he looks, feels like another Lord Tirek, the TV series villain from season 4 finale; they both hate ponies, but love their powers. And also, we have three Pegasus with Twilight and friends, that, from walking into the desert (half-dying) to falling from the pirate ship, you'd be screaming "But some of you guys can fly, or have magic!".Honestly, we could have more serious villains than what we got, especially when looking back to those of the 1980s era of My Little Pony, but, otherwise, everything else about the story was good. From Twilight and the princesses planning the Festival of Friendship to successfully pulling it off, and even welcoming Tempest, were pleasant to watch, and a welcome addition to the overall FiM canon. They were also moments I did laugh out loud over, from Twilight and friends being themselves to Queen Novo of the Hippogriffs telling her daughter that she's grounded.Sure, the movie won't be nominated for the best animated movie of the year, and it admittedly reuse some concepts from the FiM series, but, if you don't have anything else to watch, or you have young kinds, this movie is still worth watch, most especially to fans of the series.
