I only got in this movie with the name of Iko Uwais, for him I like his other movies like Raid, Raid2 and Headshot. Surprisingly, it is a best movie well in both part i.e. story and action. As me the story is very touching. Astri and Adit seen so innocent. Starting and ending portion is full of emotions. I actually could not stop tearing after seen last scene of Adit was going to school by fare welling his guardian mom and looks like Yuda. Very heart touching moment! Other hand fight sequences are purely feeling as real which give us real action experience. One more surprise to me that Yayan Rhuhian also did an important role here who acted in Red and Red-2 with Uko. Before see the movie I supposed it would be an average but after seeing it became my favourite movie. Especially for silat martial art with emotion. Must watchable for action lovers.

Merantau is an action packed movie that captures the adventure that occurs during Yuda's, the main character, Merantau. In Yuda's Merantau he travels to Jakarta to find that his living accommodations are not correct, and there is no one to call to fix it. Afterwards, he crosses paths with a young boy named Addit and his sister, Astri. I personally found this movie quite interesting between all of the fight scenes, and the shocking ending. This is a really well done movie, and is quite different than what I would have expected had it been done in the "American" type of movie, including tons of explosions, major firearm battles, and a perfectly happy ending. However, this movie not only surprised me with how amazing it is, but also made me think of the differences between normal America movies and foreign films. Overall, I think the movie is a hidden gem, and shows off silat, martial arts, to its fullest potential, along with some plot twists along the way.

I really enjoyed this film because of the intense fight scenes with very good choreography. I really started rooting for Yuda as he fought to save Astri and Adit. One thing that I found really interesting about this movie was how Yuda fought so hard to save Astri and Adit even though he never even knew them before the start of the movie. Some elements of the play that really stood out to me that the movie was't American was how the big main hero died at the end which is very different from what happens in Americans films where everyone ends up alive and well. If I were to put myself in Yuda's shoes, at the very end of the final fight scene I would have killed the European leader when he was down on the ground because due to the fact that Yuda showed him mercy, he ended up dying because of it. I think that in life threatening situations like that there isn't much room for being merciful. If I could I would change the ending by making it more American where everyone gets out happy and alive.

This was such a good movie! I really enjoyed every aspect of it, including the cinematography. I thought that it was super interesting and intriguing when many of the scenes were filmed under neon lights at night. I also thought that it added to the emotion that the director wanted the viewer to feel while they watched. Such as the red neon lighting, in one of the last scenes, when Yuda was fighting the two really bad guys and their gang. This subtle addition really put me a bit more on edge and made me really want Yuda to win since the lighting was so intense. However, I did not understand the part when all the kidnapped girls were banging on the door to get out, as Yuda was dying, and Astri's voice seemed to almost save him. How could he hear her whisper "help" when she was in a crate with dozens of screaming girls? In my opinion, this short part was a bit unclear and very unrealistic. I was also a bit confused as to why Yuda, Astri and her little brother were wanted SO bad? It seemed like they didn't really ever do anything wrong yet their life in the movie seemed to be a big chase, so I felt bad for them. It also seemed that in this movie, almost every single woman was looked at as property, and a sex object, which made me pretty sad. After Astri was sexually abused by one of the bad guys, I couldn't help but feel awful for her. Throughout the movie, she seemed to be a tough cookie, and put up a good fight. After being raped though, she was in complete shock, as this incident seemed to be her breaking point. For obvious reasons, I did not like the ending, but I appreciate how realistic it was.
