Collectors have been known to go to extreme lengths to get what they want. For Motor Man Dan, the ultimate would be to have his very own serial killer, to fulfill his sick, obsessive, murderous appetite. Ryan, the victim of a terrible accident who suffered severe head trauma, would be that missing piece to complete Motor Man's demented collection. Motor Man would then tool and manufacture a half machine, half man, serial killer, which he would then orchestrate and produce an assortment of killing scenarios. From director Craig McMahon comes this gruesome/slasher tale of a desolate man that took collecting serious.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Here's the thing, why do all horror movies have to take place at night? Would anyone protest if someone made a horror movie taking place during the day? Second, if you have next to no budget and no decent equipment, why would you go and film a movie at night, knowing full well that is going to look like garbage? In Machined, a big mechanic dude is obsessed with all things gruesome. He pays a ton of money for some knife used in a killing. One day some guy drives on a desert road and his car breaks down. Motorman Dan literally runs into and over him. Then he takes the injured guy to his shop and does something to him. We don't know what, but it's painful and it involves putting a mask on the guy. We see this from the victim's POV.Then a bunch of kids driving nearby at night have their car break down, they make it to the creepy shop. Dan offers to help but it will take a while. The kids start frolicking around when a creature appears and starts killing them. The creature is Dan's creation and he does look strange. He has a camera on this head and lights, so that Dan can see all the gory details on a tiny TV. Eventually, the sister of the first victim starts looking for him and finds the shop. And there's an interesting twist near the end.I'll give Machined credit for an idea, granted, the Frankensteinian creature isn't a new idea, but it's more than 99% of horror movies about dark-haired teenagers running at night in hallways from some lame killer. But you need more to make a movie aside from an idea and enthusiasm- you need resources, to at least be able to afford a decent camera and a flashlight. If you can't afford that, you have to be smart about using the little that you have. Machined isn't- it looks terrible and is painfully slow because it doesn't have anything to tell aside from the creature killing a few teens. Couldn't they have gotten at least some more teens to volunteer? A Z-budget movie through and through that probably should not have gotten distribution.

I just saw this movie because the sequel was released. I never heard of this one but since it spawned part 2 by the same director, I thought this must be OK. I was wrong, even after reading the reviews. No idea why some people really like this movie. The story was just plain stupid: Motor Man Dan is a fat and ugly psychopath who owns a filthy garage shop in the middle of nowhere. One day he accidentally runs over some guy. Dan than transforms the victim into half man, half machine. The machine is forced to kill people who keep turning up around his garage (in the middle of nowhere ?)while Dan watches it all on screen. This is extremely Low Budget Crap. Just two locations throughout the entire movie and the cast in unconvincing. The cheap camera-work and extremely bad lighting kills this movie, if the annoying soundtrack hasn't already. I love horror movies, they certainly don't have to be big budget. Many times the low budget movies are the real hits like Evil Dead, Halloween I, Saw I, High Tension, Eden Lake etc. But half way in the movie you realize that this is unwatchable and dull. Even for gore hounds, no great special effects here, just some cheap blood and things that happen when the lights are turned off. (they should have done that for the entire running time).

When i first saw this film i was screaming at my buddy to give me back an hour and a half of my life, but as time went on and we just couldn't stop with the references i realized what a gem this movie is, but not for most of the reasons listed in other reviews here. I cant watch this move without laughing my ass off now! In terms of horror flicks, this was one of the worst; however, i mean worst as in Evil Dead 2 worst. AWESOME one liners like:Wounded detectives voice-"Help help!!"old guy who just showed up-"yes we need help..."brilliant stuff. i recommend this flick for anyone who loves making fun of bad movies with their buddies; for ~$3 we have gotten, oh, a good 3 months worth of jokes and wise cracks.hint: every time the killer shows up (in his welders mask with mag-lites taped to the side) listen for the cheesy mechanical sound effect. I cant stop making fun of that.

I was thinking the same same...it being a Lions Gate film why is it on video? But of course it isn't on the big screen. But it being on video didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. Once It settled in and I was able to realize that I rented a low budget horror film and that's what I was getting. But I have to be honest, it isn't a horror film to me. I mean, I wasn't scared. Maybe a little creeped out knowing the blind woman was going to get it and that made me feel horrible. Seeing that guys face all bloody after being hit by the car made me flinch a little but the rest of it kept my interest by wanting to know if the sister was going to find him in time and what kind of danger she was really in. Now if it were me I would have had the motor Dan guy kill the sister in front of the brother and that's what makes him turn on the motor Dan guy. And that's how it should have ended. If anything lets see Dan and the killer go at it a little. It was missing that. But this low budget movie kept my interest all the way through and ended up being something other and more then a stupid remake or a sequel or a cartoon or TV show turned into a movie. I like bigger budget films more but I can live with this one. It did it for me.
