SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
... View Moreone of my absolute favorites!

... View MoreThis is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
... View MoreOne of the worst films I've ever seen. The story was incidents stringed together with no continuity and gratuitous poor quality gore. I can't express how much I hated it
... View MoreEveryone has acknowledged great cinematography, great acting, lighting, but what the heck was that movie about? I keep hearing about a macabre underworld; well how does that translate into this story line? We're certainly not going to compare "Dave" to "Frank" in Blue Velvet, are we? I watched the entire movie and with about twenty minutes left I realized it was going to end the way it began for me: having no idea what this movie was about. I was quite impressed with the lighting and the use of darkness and fire to add to the scene lighting. It just needed to move past that. Really one of the worst movies of all time I've ever seen because of the story.
... View MoreI was interested to watch this because of the cover art and it being Gosling's directorial debut. I really wanted to like this. Lost River has a very cool soundtrack and impressive camera work and lighting and great visual imagery throughout the film. Very cool cover image as well and a cool name if that even matters. This film has everything working in its favor except the plot or anything that isn't how it looks or sounds. The plot is honestly dull and convoluted and the movie screams try hard. It seems like Gosling tried to cram a lot of bizarre and unaccomplished ideas into an hour and a half. Also this film has the worst rodent treatment since the green mile.
... View MoreThis is really a mess of a movie. It has a few interesting ideas, and some interesting but not always consistent imagery, but in the end fails to deliver on any of the questions it sets up. Like the "shows within the show" the movie seems most of the time to just do things for shock value and no other narrative purpose. If David Lynch had a totally incoherent dream (for David Lynch), this might be it. Lynch at least teases us with a feeling of connectedness and gives us some kind of ending. This movie fails to do either. The cinematographer should get credit for his sometimes striking visuals, but that's about all there is to this film.
