... View MoreLost Boys: The Tribe held a decent amount of potential for me, as someone that doesn't hold any strong feelings towards the original Lost Boys at all. I went into this film with no strings attached not having to brace my self for the worst. After all was said and done i left the film feeling moderately satisfied, with the thought that over-all the film felt inconsequential. The film looks decent enough on it's obviously low budget, but in a time of low budget horror classics like What We Do In the Shadow, there's no reason why it shouldn't.The biggest problem with the film is that, at It's core it has a poorly conceived script. There's absolutely nothing original in this film, everything you think is going to happen, happens! There's zero tension, and most of the gore/kills are generic to say in the least. The acting Is about standard for this type of film, Corey Feldman does a decent job of reviving his character Edgar Frog from the first film. Tad Hilgenbrink and Autumn Reeser do the best they can with a very limited script as brother and sister Chris and Nicole. Angus Sutherland plays the new bad boy lead vampire Shane. He's un-engaging and lacks any and all the charisma his half brother Kiefer Sutherland had in the original. It has been over twenty years since the original. The fact that this is the best the screenwriters could conjure up is very poor on their part. At best for a non fan of the original, it was an average, generic ninety minute vampire flick, that left me feeling unmoved. Whilst i found the film passable, i can understand why fans of the original are Incredibly disappointed with it.

View MoreA-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."Lost Boys: The Tribe" (R - 2008 - US)Sub-Genre: Monster/Sequel My Score: 5.3Cast=5 Acting=6 Plot=4 Ending=6 Story=5 Scare=4 Jump=4 F/X=6 Monster=7 Sequel=6Risking everything in search of the ultimate rush is fun when you know you can't die. The orphan children of Michael Emerson move to Luna Bay...where once again the family runs into The Tribe of undead."Do you smell that? It smells like death and fungus. It's Vampire BO." Unfortunately, this sequel was 15 years too late...it could have been a lot better. They get Kiefer Sutherland's brother Angus...too bad he can't act. It was like it was trying to be a vampire version of "Point Break". I'm glad Edgar Frog reemerges, but the best part was the end credits scene...it's only dialogue but makes the film. Just remember, Build a man a fire, he's warm for a day. Light a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life!
... View MoreAfter moving to a new town, a young man gets involved with the leader of a rebellious vampire clan after his sister gets turned into one forcing him to enlist a legendary vampire hunter to track them down and return her safely. This one was pretty decent though it did have some problems. One of the film's greatest parts here is the first half's rather fun telling of her transformation which is where it does have some good stuff in the gradual realization that they're dealing with vampires. The fact that this utilizes vampire lore fairly well in doing so, from the sudden super-strength and demonic voices to the initial feasting attempt that gets interrupted and showcases the traits of her growing condition using the mirror and crosses to fine effect here. While integrated nicely with the first encounter with the entertainer from the party where she gets accidentally impaled on the statue and explodes which really settles into the idea further of what's going on that he's stumbled upon a vampire clan, and after meeting the hunter fills him in on how it's built that really sets into motion what's going on. The build-up here from this into the second half here of how he tries to win over the group with some fine action scenes here, from the rather thrilling chase throughout town as they flaunt themselves around for the officers charging after them, a great group swarming scene at a night-time surfing session with some fine brawling here with the fight against the other vampires before setting up some fantastic set-pieces in the finale where he stalks the group down in their hideout where there's some great battling against the rest of the clan as well as the big final battle around the two which is really fun, and includes the great setting which is a dank, dark crypt which allows for some nice atmosphere. With the fantastic make-up and gore here helping this one to become slightly decent, there's enough to like here to hold this one up over its few flaws. The biggest is that it consisted far too much on a series of clichés which aren't the least bit interesting, from the lifestyle of the gang being into extreme sports or the laid-back surfer vibe which isn't exciting nor really makes the main villain someone that really should be fallen for. The different manners of behavior which indicate that are so lame and haphazardly written here that he comes off as a really pathetic villain, especially all the talk about the lead vampire being such a threat but turns out to be yet another pansy vampire looking for a bride like in so many of these kinds of films. The other problem comes from the rather weak plan for infiltrating the group, which doesn't make much sense. Not only does that require the fact that they're incapable of realizing the change has taken place when they did it to him in the first place, but also knowingly sends the guy into a coven full of vicious vampires that have already taken an interest in him from the previous party antics and simply accepting him in anyway just because his sister's involved with them, a plan that make this one seem quite lame at times. Still, this one is a lot of fun.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Extreme Graphic Language, Full Nudity, some sexual content and drug use.
... View MoreI will start off by saying that i am a huge fan of Corey Feldman and the original Lost Boys (I thought i needed to get that out the way). The story is that two youngish teens' parents are killed and they are forced to go live with there aunt in a new city. Chris, the brother, is an ex-surfer, and Nicole, the sister, is trying to get a fresh start. When Chris is looking for a job, he is directed to Edgar Frog, who turns out to be a vampire hunter. Chris dosen't know it yet, but he could be in need of Edgar's services as he goes to another ex surfers party, who isn't all he seems, and takes a shine to Chris' younger sister...As i am sure you all know, Corey Feldman's career has possibly gone slightly downhill since the good old 80's, and quite frankly has not done a great deal of "acting" as such, and the acting he has, are usually, well, awful. So when I found out there was in fact a Lost Boys 2, i was very excited, especially when i found out Corey was in it, as i suppose i was kind of hoping a film like this would re start his career. Now down to the the actual movie. I will be honest, it is pretty much the same as the original, even in some of the scenes (without ruining too much there is a very similar scene to the campfire one in the first, and the vampires even ride motorbikes). Some of the writing can be a bit poor at times, and the profanity seems a bit un-necessary, but these problems can be over-looked as there is actually some pretty cool action sequences and vampire deaths! The violence is quite a lot more graphic than the original, which starts from the beginning, so if you watch the first death, and think it's a little too much, then don't watch the rest, as it's pretty much gets worse. However, I enjoy O.T.T violence and there is a couple of awesome kills, and i particularly awesome cop chase. As i mentioned before with the problems, i'd say my biggest gripe is the profanity used. Considering the "f" word is used probably only once in the original (if that), the foul language is a big step up, the the "f" word used frequently and harshly.Onto the cast. There is obviously the legend that is Corey Feldman, who unfortunately is not the main character, but is probably in this one as much as he is in the original, which i suppose is enough satisfaction for me. No, the main actor is Tad Hilgenbrink (American Pie Presents: Band Camp, Disaster Movie) who plays the protagonist who has to kill the head vampire to save his sister - ring any bells? The head vampire is played by Angus Sutherland who is the younger half-brother of Keifer Sutherland. I thought he did quite well as he practically plays the same role as his older half-brother, just modernised. The sister who needs saving is Autumn Reeser (The O.C). I quite liked her as i thought she was pretty, but not made fake like many other actresses. Finally, the "Grandpa" in this movie is there aunt, whom is played by Gabrielle Rose (The Five Sences). Her role is pretty small but adds a bit of comedy to the film. All in all, i'd say a worthy sequel, if a little too samey, and not bad if you can pick it up as a bargain or rent it.
