Surfing vampires hit the waves, rule the night and seek fresh blood, and the new girl in town may be exactly what they're craving.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Slickly made, but low budget and uninteresting sequel to the iconic 1980s teen vampire movie. There is again a family moving to Santa Carla who run afoul local vampires, surfers this time instead of bikers, but that's about the only thing original about this film. When the most interesting thing about the movie is that Corey Feldman reprises his role as vampire hunter Edgar Frog, although a 13-year-old acting like a tough vampire hunter is a lot funnier than a 40something vampire hunter, even if it's tongue-in-cheek. Corey Haim also makes a cameo and Tom Savini has a funny (and gory) cameo in the film's opening. And in true B-movie fashion, this film casts a unknown relative of a movie star with Kiefer Sutherland's half-brother, Angus Sutherland as the new vampire leader. I suppose the film does achieve a decent "California" feel to it that was also achieved in the original, but really there is not much to recommend here.

As a huge fan of the original movie, I finally brought myself to watch Lost Boys 2. For a direct-to-DVD movie, it was better than expected but there were obviously some missed opportunities. Basically the only actor to reprise his role is Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog. Corey Haim is in an end credits scene and Jamison Newlander is in a deleted scene. I know both actors wanted bigger parts in the movie so it seems like common sense. Why only have one Frog Brother? Also, this sequel seemed to follow the first movie's formula scene-by-scene. Michael and Star's teenage son and daughter move into a town close to Santa Carla (I guess they couldn't afford to film in the same location.) The daughter gets mixed up with the head vampire (played by Keither Sutherland's son) and the brother joins the gang to keep her out of danger. He drinks vampire blood, becomes a half vampire and him and Edgar proceed to stake all the vampires to break the curse. Sound a little familiar? I think the long-rumoured 'The Lost Girls' would have made a more interesting sequel. The ending was much less-climactic than the original film. The head vampire wakes-up and says "Edgar", implying they have a history or something. This goes unresolved as Edgar and the head vampire are never come in contact with one another … Oh and there's no twist with who's the head vampire. I expected the landlord when she burst into the house at the end but unfortunately not. That would have given the character a purpose in the film which she did not have. Who was she anyway; a relative or family friend? I don't think it was explained. A lot of this movie makes no sense. All in all, the movie is mildly enjoyable. I recommend watching it if the DVD isn't expensive.

The first Lost Boys wasn't really that much better than the sequel but popular because it was the first of its kind and had a good sound track and group of actors. It was campy horror like the first Fright Night. There is nothing strange about finding surfer vampires considering the first group were living in a cave off the ocean in a beach city in California. So by extension it made sense. These types of movies are never award winners but entertaining. Since it was made so long after the first one, times have changed and what viewers expect to see in movies is a little more graphic and I think that is why there were more sex scenes.Wiki says: "Hans Rodionoff originally wrote a script about surfing werewolves titled The Tribe which was turned down by studios including Warner Bros for its resemblance to The Lost Boys. Warner Bros studio executives changed their mind when they decided on a sequel, who then persuaded Rodionoff to alter the script as a sequel, including changing the werewolves of the original to vampires. The film was Warner Premiere's highest selling DVD release of 2008, performing so impressively that Warner immediately green-lit a third installment. It covered its 5 million dollar production cost in its first three weeks of release. As of January 2011, it has sold over 1,250,000 copies, a record for a direct to DVD release. Despite the success on the DVD, the film received poor reviews" So even though some of the reviews haven't been so good and some for the original weren't either, they did quite well. Adapting it from another type of story is where I think they went wrong. As for Corey Haim he had trouble with his past offenses in being able to be in the movie and why he was left to only do a cameo. It wasn't any fault of those associated to the movie because they had wanted him. He just wasn't able to comply. The movie is entertaining and if the Master Vampire died in the other movie it makes sense to me that it would leave the next down the line in that position. They never said they were born the way they are at any time. I have seen far worse vampire movies than this one and it was nice to see Corey Feldman recast in his role as Edgar Frog.

The IMDb rating of this movie doesn't do it justice. The film was not bad. In fact, it is my opinion that the soundtrack in the original made it feel a lot better than it actually was. This being said, there is a huge gap between the seductive horror of the original Lost Boys and the slightly above boring atmosphere of The Tribe. The main problem lies in the director, I guess. He lets the main character come up as an uptight unlikeable ass, while allowing Corey Feldman to be silly, thus robbing us of any strong lead character. The girl is no better, as she is portrayed as uber sexy and she is rather bland. The vampires were a little cooler, and choosing Angus Sutherland as the head undead was a nice touch. It all fails when the fighting action starts, though.Bottom line: decent sort of a remake of Lost Boys, but lacking the brilliance of the first. A better director or just a little more effort could have done wonders for this film. It is certainly not below average, but sadly not above, either.
