Just a correction to the earlier review regarding filming location. Belvoir Castle is actually in Leicestershire, not Lincolnshire. Other than that I agree with most of the previous comments. Although a tad trite in some scenes the film is quite heart-warming and, as usual, the acting skills of Alec Guiness shine through. I really hope that some digitally proficient individual can obtain the rights to transfer this movie to DVD. I know that I would certainly purchase a copy and, judging by the other favorable reviews here, I wouldn't be alone. How about a 30th anniversary edition? With the Anglo-American aspect, the DVD would surely sell to a family audience on both sides of the Atlantic. I can see it now on PBS !!!

This was 1 of the 1st movies I Saw Ricky Schroder in and it was 1 of His Best Movies. I Have Been A Fan Of His Since The 1st Movie I saw Him in (SINCE THE 1970'S). 1 Of The Reasons I Like This Movie is that it Tugs at Your HeartStrings. It Tells of a Young Boy Finding Out That His Dad was a Lord. And That He Should Not Be Living In the Pour Part Of Town But He Has A Castle to live in. And Family that he did not even Know He Had. And He Finally Gets To Meet His Long Lost Family. It Is A Wonderful Movie. Even Though it has been a While since I have Seen it I look forward To Watching it Again Someday SOON.And It is A Great Movie for the Whole Family To Watch Together(Mothers, Fathers,Children, Grandchildren,Aunts,Uncles, etc.) I Highly Recommend This Movie to Everyone So that they May Watch it andenjoy it Also. I Know Everyone Who likes Family Movies Or Awesome movies Will Truly Enjoy Watching this Movie. Everyone Rent and/Or Buy Little Lord Fauntleroy Today and watch it. You will Truly and whole heartily enjoy watching it. And I Know All The Ricky(Rick)Schroder Fans Out There Will Enjoy Seeing Him In it. And Seeing Him in his early Work and See that He has always been a GREAT and AWESOME Actor. And Now a Great Director. Congratulations for the Nomination for the whiskey Lullaby video director award Good Luck I hope you Win Rick.

Not only an excellent leading cast, Alec Guinness superb as the curmudgeony earl and Ricky Schroeder believably charming as the American boy thrust into the world of the English nobility, the minor characters are also exceptional: Eric Porter as the earl's steward and Patrick Stewart as the head coachman both particularly memorable. The pace of the film is also excellent, events happen and characters develop with interesting detail but without over emphasis or very drawn out scenes. Overall, in our family's top 20 or even top 10 fims. So, why on earth can't the studio issue this film on VHS or DVD! Considering the absolute rubbish that is now available even on DVD there must surely be a market for an excellent seasonal "family" film like this. We made a recording when this film was shown on TV sometime in the early 80s, since when it has been played at least twice a year for the last 20 years and both sound and vision have now deteriorated to a point where it is almost unwatchable. PLEASE! someone, pass this request on to the studio and get it issued on DVD. We know there are many families like us who would be happy to pay £15 or so for a new version to play for the next 20 years.
