A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

Lie with Me is the story of a Leila (Lauren Smith), a woman on a quest for pleasure, who has found sex to be the main road to get there. The film begins with her masturbating to porno, and much of the rest of the 90 minutes are very well-made and realistic scenes of masturbation and sex, which apart from showing two young hot bodies, is also an excellent portrayal of desire and longing. It's easy to identify with Leila, haven't we all been captivated by someone at some point?... She is obsessed with David (Eric Balfour), a man with whom she feels a special chemistry. Could it be love? Well, it's certainly lots of hot sex and fantasies of having David watch her have sex with other men...Lie-la and David's total lack of ability to communicate outside the bed or even about their fantasies leads these two alienated youths to come to the impossible conclusion of mutual unrequited love for an damaged soul who doesn't or can't love them back. This psychological struggle is truly interesting, and the cruelty and stupidity that result of this feeling of injustice define the rest of the film. The film-maker does a terrible job of resolving this tension, or hinting at how this misunderstanding might be overcome. Maybe one can read Tamara Berger's book to figure it out.In conclusion, Lie with Me is a great film to watch in bed with a lover. It has excellent acting and sexy bodies. Interesting psychologically, this film surpasses soft-core porn, it is a study of the modern dilemma of alienation around promiscuity and love in cities and club scenes. But little depth or dialogue accompanies the ending, and many will regret watching it to the end. Hopefully before then, you've gotten more interested in that warm body lying with you, or at the very least with yourself.

Lie With Me (2005): Dir: Clement Virgo / Cast: Laura Lee Smith, Eric Balfour, Polly Shannon, Kate Lynch, Mayko Nguyen: You wouldn't think that a film populated with sex would be boring but that's exactly what Clement Virgo's efforts are here. It is a film about relationships within sex that starts out interesting before becoming a chore to sit through. Lauren Lee Smith plays a young woman addicted to sex. At home her parents are divorcing and she passes time by screwing everything that isn't bolted down. Structure is one act of sex after another but viewers feel no sense of emotion or care for these meat-heads. The subject matter isn't the issue here. Smith just isn't likable and the loser she links up with refers to her as a slut yet he bangs her while going with someone else. A relationship at the level operates plainly on her insecurity and his dominant nature that in turn, shelters his insecurities. No one in this peep show derives sympathy. Virgo simply spices things up with great location work, which doesn't say much for the sex. One would think that a film containing this much sexual interaction would be tempting but instead it is one long bore. Theme regards sexual addiction and there was potential for a decent film here but when you don't give a rat's ass about the characters then the only way one could lie with me during this film is if one could tolerate snoring. Score: 2 / 10

I haven't watched many movies that have touched me this deeply in a very long time. I identified with the main characters throughout the entire movie. I wonder how many others say the same. I wonder how many others will admit it. How can it be that this fictional movie can be such a mirror into my soul? All I can say is that I now have a favorite movie. This was an absolutely fabulous film!Lauren Lee Smith: This is the first time I have seen this actress in a movie before. I have to say that she was a fantastic choice for this role. I felt every emotion right along with her.Eric Balfour: I have seen this actor in many roles. He never struck me as anything special, until this movie. He played a character that could have easily been destroyed by poor acting abilities. He was spectacular in his performance.

There are lot of explicit sex scenes in this movie, but it's not erotic if you can figure that out. The reason I think is because all the actors looks like tired ducks.I've seen Italian movies like this where there's sexual action, but just looks like muscles and sinews of the body are moving. When the actors look life worn, sex is not a pleasure but a stressful event. Sex in this movie was extremely stressful to watch. The actors weren't attractive either, so it was difficult to get emotionally involved. What was this movie trying to do with itself ? Is it trying to give visual entertainment ? Then it kind of failed. Is it trying to tell a story ? Well what's the story ?It's kind of an ugly movie in the way things are presented, and is not recommended for viewing.
