Wonderful character development!

... View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

... View MoreUnexpected, Nymph (2014) Is a Serbian horror film. Directed by Milan Todorovic, and written by written by Marko Backovic and Barry Keating. Spoilers ahead. The story about five young people stuck on an Island that they were warned against visiting, is standard horror fare. It's a mixed lot including two American girl tourists, played by Kristina Klebe and Natalie Burn, their friend with a boat Niko, played by Franko Nero, and other assorted acquaintances. The movie presents itself in the genera of, "Mad hook wielding Stalking Maniac" With an interesting overlay of the mythological; the Siren of legend, luring men to their death. Here we have a shape shifting, from beautiful to monstrous, mermaid. The Serbian perspective is interesting, there is a bit more depth of character then one might expect from a C grade exploitation horror show. Kudos for some of the actors, and for the location shooting, The movie generates some tension and suspense, The fight scenes were well done, There was some amount of gore depicted, One of the major horror film clichés, "The Resurrecting Killer" makes an appearance here. Surprisingly, it works. The end had a tacked on feel, as if the writers could not find a proper resolution, My first impression was negative, I am not a torture porn advocate, and wondered if the film was going to go in that direction, Glad to say it did not, I found it watchable and gives it Seven out of Ten "Somethings Fishy" Stars
... View MoreFor a movie called "Killer Mermaid" this has surprisingly very little mermaid action in it, it takes an hour before the promised killer mermaid action actually starts (unless you count the beginning teaser). In the first 30 minutes or so it still kept my interest a bit, a lot having to do with the beautiful Serbia Monetenegro landscape that I haven't really seen in a movie before. The characters also feels a little more three-dimensional than the usual 2d stereotypes that cheap creature features like this usually offers. Not that any of the characters are all that interesting tho and once the action does start in the second half the clichés starts piling up.The acting is okay although the accents get a little distracting from time to time and make the dialog sound unnatural for most of the cast. It's not the worst movie I've seen or anything but it's not particularly good either, if you're looking for a mermaid horror movie I suggest SHE CREATURE (2001) instead.
... View MoreWhen you're a fan of B-movies and you come across a horror film titled Killer Mermaid, you don't think, you scramble for the remote and hit play.Netflix has really upped its game in terms of supplying an ample variety of B-movies on its repertoire. So it should be no surprise that a Serbian film called Mamula I mean Nymph I mean Killer Mermaid would make itself available. As a B-movie, Killer Mermaid had a lot of potential going for itself: a cheeky poster highlighting the audience's interest for B-movies by showcasing a killer mermaid, grade C horror pedigree from its lead actress Kristina Klebe, and an awareness in teasing the viewer to keep them watching until the very end. True, the very end wasn't that great by any means but you have to hand it to the director Milan Todorovic and writers Marko Backovic, Barry Keating and Milan Konjevic – I stuck it until the credits stopped. Not just that, Killer Mermaid managed to bait three unsuspecting roommates into warming up a seat on the couch and watching with. Two American girls are vacationing in Montenegro when they meet up with an old friend and his fiancé. Up for any adventure, the group of four meets another traveler and they go exploring a long abandoned monstrous castle off the coast. But something isn't right, they aren't alone and the group appears to have stumbled upon the cause for all those missing tourists – but they could never have imagined the unspeakable truth behind the horror.I can only imagine the makers of this film getting together to conspire to make this film. Setting the film in the Mediterranean and filming in Montenegro is envy-inducing genius. Seriously, I hope the film was somehow sponsored by the tourism bureau of that vacation spot because it's added to my list of 'must-visits'. There's drinking, dancing, death scenes involving boobs and that's all within the first twenty minutes, I swoon! But that is where the fun ends unfortunately. Sorry folks, but Killer Mermaid falls incredibly short of delivering. Once the characters start exploring Mamula, the name of the abandoned military fortress located on a remote island, the fun and suspense ends there – except in the form of blind stupidity on behalf of the characters. Though the reveal of the killer mermaid is adequate and not disappointed, it doesn't quite live up to its potential, as the rest of the film quickly follows suit. The makers then do the unconscionable, decide to take the film sorta-seriously and bypassing the fun tone of the beginning of the film. The scares are minimal and infuriatingly imbecilic, thanks to the completely illogical actions of the surviving characters. The story becomes more convoluted, as expected with B-movies, but then the movie lasts twenty minutes longer passing by numerous opportunities to call cut – despite the fact that my whole viewing group did. Though I don't think B-movie fans will be disappointed in Killer Mermaid, I just don't think it has that ability to garner a lasting impression. Please check out our website for full reviews of all the recent releases and horror films.
... View MoreThat's the best I can say about the movie. It delivers every cliché in the book and there are lines of dialog, that were openly laughed at, at the Screening at Frightfest. While director and stars are invited I always feel sort of bad for them, but it wasn't an issue at the Q&A afterwards, which was a good thing. The actors are all pretty, but some struggle with their lines (especially those whose first language isn't English!). Franco Nero might seem like a lighthouse, but considering the demands he made to be in the movie, it might have been better, if he actually wasn't. He brings some sort of gravitas, but he has some speeches that feel endless and stop the movie entirely. Not that it was up and running in high speed, but still. There is some nudity and blood to satisfy those needs, but it does not help make this a fun movie. While the poster (english title "Nymph"), promised something entertaining, it couldn't deliver in the way "Zombeaver" did ...
