Ollie Trinke is a young, suave music publicist who seems to have it all, with a new wife and a baby on the way. But life deals him a bum hand when he's suddenly faced with single fatherhood, a defunct career and having to move in with his father. To bounce back, it takes a new love and the courage instilled in him by his daughter.

It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

Oliver Trinke (Ben Affleck) is an up & coming music promoter. Its his job to whip up a frenzy for concerts and interviews. Although he is from "Joysey" , he works and lives in Manhattan with his beautiful wife, Gertrude (Jennifer Lopez), also a professional. They are expecting a baby and everyone is excited, including Ollie's Dad, Bart (George Carlin) , who runs the street sweeper in their NJ town. Sorrow suddenly descends, as Gertrude dies of an aneurysm giving birth to a daughter. Grieving greatly, Ollie parks his newborn daughter, also Gertie, with his Dad for the first month while he focuses on work. Naturally, this approach is a disaster and Ollie has a meltdown which gets him fired. Now, he must get to know his little girl and go limping back home to work in the same department as his Dad in Jersey. Flash forwarding seven years, Gertie is a spirited gal who charms even as she pushes buttons. Especially on her mind is a musical revue her class is doing for the parents; Gert insists they do a song from Sweeney Todd! Her dad will help her do it, with Gpa and his two closest friends also playing second fiddles. Meanwhile, Ollie has two new events in his life. One is the attractive sales clerk, Maya (Liv Tyler) at the video store who makes a pass at him. But, surprisingly, he also gets a job interview with a company similar to the one that fired him. Here is his chance to get back into a "classier", more exciting, more lucrative place in life. Or is it so? This movie, written and directed by Kevin Smith of Clerks and Chasing Amy, has its charms and humor. Especially wonderful is Affleck, Lopez, Carlin, Tyler, and little Raquel Castro as the younger Gert. Also nice is the Jersey scenery and the edgy talk and themes. Since all of us romcom fans have to "look back in time" to find new delights, I heartily recommend searching for this one.

Kevin Smith is a talented filmmaker, so before you get on my case about disliking the guy, let me just inform you all that I'm a huge fan of his work. Clerks is great, Mallrats is amazing, Chasing Amy is okay, Dogma was decent, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was hilarious, and so on. With that being said, I was shocked by how bad this movie turned out.You have an all-star cast, an amazing director, and so much potential all wasted for nothing! Ben Affleck is a likable guy but not here and the girl who plays the bratty daughter is not only annoying as hell but she is TERRIBLE. Absolutely atrocious! This Raquel Castro girl makes Veruca Salt look tolerable. It's clear that Liv Tyler and Will Smith couldn't refuse the paycheck by signing on to this complete mess of a movie. Jason Biggs, what were you thinking?! American Pie was the highlight of your career and now it seems that your agent picks your scripts to act in at random, regardless of the quality. The plot goes nowhere, the characters are uninteresting, and I found the whole experience to be just boring. We're talking about a once great writer-director and THIS is what we get? You've got to be kidding me. It tries to be sappy and then it attempts to be raunchy and then Kevin Smith doesn't know whether his target audience for this are kids or adults. There was never a time in the process where his producer, Scott Mosier, read the script and told him, "C'mon! You can totally do better than this"? Seriously, this is a movie with the words BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD written all over it. Watch Clerks or Mallrats instead of Jersey Hurl!

Typical Kevin Smith movies are full of parody and slapstick involving comic book skits and super hero references, however after many years I decided to watch this little known 2004 gem titled "Jersey Girl". And I must say that Kevin hit the jackpot with this picture it's heartfelt and has a touching story about life and love, plus I'm a little partial to Jersey girls they are the best lovers in my opinion! Featuring Hollywood star Ben Affleck who stars as Ollie a big New York city publicist who all of a sudden one day has his life to take a big unexpected twist after becoming a single dad in a tragic way the cocky and stubborn Ollie finds himself fired and living back at his New Jersey neighborhood home with his middle class dad the funny and now late legend George Carlin. In a good and heartfelt twist Ollie meets a sexy educated and sophisticated video store clerk played by Liv Tyler and this makes Ollie rethink things and he rediscovers that life, family and love is the most important thing! Also nice eye candy scene of Liv Tyler sporting a purple bra in the shower! Overall heartfelt film that proves work and jobs take a backseat to love and family.
