Good movie but grossly overrated
... View MoreThis is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
... View MoreIt is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
... View MoreActress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
... View MoreI get that it was supposed to reflect a descent into madness (with memory loss); but it was just too odd for me. Random information discussing situations that really are not that interesting or are the character's taste etc. It seems to have hot the mark for many reviewers and so it may be worth a watch to see if you are among the fans. You will know within minutes whether you will relate to it - so dont waste your time like I did and watch the whole thing (it doesnt improve as it progresses).
... View MoreAn intense and beautiful take on mental health that deals with its subject matter with tact and respect. In a world where mental health in film is so often overly-trivialised or simply ignored, it's refreshing to see a piece that accurately represents the everyday anxiety and uncertainty that comes with such problems.More specifically, however, it's a very tragic story of protagonist Bill slowly losing his grip on reality. As such the film is presented in a manner that often feels like the unfocused ramblings of a man lost in his own thoughts. Bill regales us with memories within memories, memories that are perhaps inaccurate and memories that may even be entirely fabricated. The way the unreliable narrator method of storytelling is used throughout is extremely effective, and although it may feel a little confusing or disjointed at times it all comes together wonderfully in a way that feels thoughtful and very well-considered.An incredibly unique piece of art that any amount of description can't really do justice. One of my favourite things to sit down and watch whenever I'm feeling down or uncertain or if I simply want to get lost in thought. Guaranteed to leave a lasting impact if given the time and attention it deserves.
... View MoreI love animated movies. However, most of the people who make animated movies refuse to use the genre for anything more than family fare. Now, I don't mind animated family movies, I just that the medium can be used for much more than the latest Disney or Dreamworks flick. It's Such a Beautiful Day is one of the few films which take advantage of the medium for an absolutely wonderful experience. Told in a minimalist art style, It's Such a Beautiful Day is an absolutely unforgettable experience as far as aesthetics go. The narration is constantly talking over itself, the images are bizarre at times. Admittedly the plot is a little weak, centering around a man who has some sort of disease where he's losing his memory. However, the themes on this movie about life and living it to your fullest are amazing, along with a glorious unforgettable ending. It's such a beautiful movie, and one of the best I've seen.
... View MoreI sought this out because of World of Tomorrow, which despite being shorter, does have more of a narrative drive and probably even more ideas than this. This, however, is still rather brilliant. It's easy to think that after a while it will get old and dull, but the ideas keep on flowing and they keep coming on. There's a narrative here, but it's the random, spontaneous moments that make the film shine. Despite such simple animation, it also works very well within what the film is trying to do. I don't think this is for everyone, but I definitely think that it will be able to find a sizable audience that will greatly appreciate it
