The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

While the movie is exited and really good for those who really like to live from fantasies and the magic of the TV brainwashing format....that'd be OK, but I don't think you can mess around, even if you are mastered in martial arts.Action and the content might be exaggerated. The girl is doing the Rambo- hero play. She is kicking guys easily when all in real life guys just get you, put a bullet in your head before you make the first blink of an eye. this girl is a clown, but of course Hollywood always showing the power of white blood... as always over any ethnicity or race... in real life if this girl were for real, for the most she can reach; it's just to punch the first guy and then she's got killed easily. sadly in those countries is as it is.

Of course the highlights of the film are the action sequences. The brief moments where we get to dismiss the abomination of a plot and watch Gina kick some butt. The film has some MAJOR problems. You get the feeling as a viewer that the film crew threw-together this plot on the fly. Like they didn't know where to go with it.The film starts-off with some bad acting, a really cheesy 80's montage love video(ala "Streets of Fire" only placed in a bad movie making it worse instead in a really good movie making it only above average for SOF). Really bad start.Gina can't act. Let's face it - she can't. Her character is just so void of emotion - especially considering what she's gone through. The only person that kicks Gina's butt in this film is the younger actress who's playing her younger self in some flashback scenes.. at least I can tell when she's upset. This kinda reminds me of "Falcon Rising"... I gave both films a 4/10, but this is probably closer to a 5 than FR was. The production values here are certainly better. Like FR, In The Blood is shot in a beautiful location. This film looks great BUT.It's total nonsense. The actions of the characters are ridiculous, and again the plot was written by a pre-kindergartner. It's full of laugh-off loud moments that weren't meant to be funny. How could so many directors in the 80's get the formula right? Not trying to do too much with the plot, so as to not detract from the action, or not throw in the plot like it was a complete after- thought an hour into the film?(the case here) I mean it literally feels like the production stopped and they decided on the fly 'why' the husband had been taken. They had no idea until that moment. Like it or not. If the reason was actually put to paper and this was actually scripted in advance then I apologize, but the writer should still bit put out of our and their misery.Very little works here. The highlight of the whole film is a barfight in the first third, after that, it's all downhill. THey could have used the scene to drive the plot, but instead, the writers and director got drunk and went into lala-land for the films final hour.Gina still deserves some props because she can certainly pull-off the action stuff better than just about any chick in the biz, but the aimless, silly plot, and the lack of emotion here sink this ship. I dialed up Falcon Rising and In The Blood because I wanted a mindless action flick - i just didn't want them THAT mindless.I'd pass. If you want some action flicks of the last decade that do it right(many sleepers and low-budget too) - i'd check out these first: The Man From Nowhere(subt), Elite Squad 2:The Enemy Within(subt), Running Scared, John Wick, Jack Reacher, Olympus Has Fallen, Dredd, IPman1&2(subt), Point Blank(subt), True Legend(subt), Shoot'em Up, Rampage, SHooter, Purge:Anarchy, 3 Days to Kill, Oldboy(remake), Homefront, 2 Guns, Raid1&2, Hanna, Never Back Down, Parker, The Mechanic, SNitch, From Paris With Love.... ...all those are significantly better than this junk and many of those have similar budget constraints.

This film was actually engaging up until the point where the heroine gets the evil wrongdoer in a room with his henchmen, and she lets them all live! What bullshit! This guy kidnapped her husband and used him to extract stem cells, and she has a gun on them all, and lets them live! At that point I stopped the movie and felt very cheated. She had not hesitated to kill various henchmen up to that point, but when she has the guy who masterminded the whole operation, apparently she feels sorry for him and allows him to continue to live, and to continue to try to kill her. Ridiculous. Stupid movie. Don't waste your time. I need ten lines so here they are. Stupid movie.

In the Blood is an action film with a mediocre screenplay and insipid direction, but what ends up making it passable is the credibility and charisma displayed by Gina Carano in the leading role. I had honestly thought her career was going to be on top after Haywire (that very entertaining action B-movie directed by an A-list filmmaker). Unfortunately, that didn't happen. With the exception of a solid (but excessively brief) participation in Fast & Furious 6, she hasn't been involved in any high profile movies. Is that fault of the legendary Hollywood machismo, or of a simple matter of economy? It's true that Carano doesn't attract a lot of spectators, but she certainly has fans (including me), either as an actress or as a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter. I think that the machismo option is more likely in this case. There have been various action heroines in TV (from Xena to Sidney Bristow), but for some reason, they can't still fully make it in cinema. And if there's someone who deserves it, that one is definitely Carano, not only because of her physical development, but also because she's an excellent actress. For better or for worse, the main audience of the action films is male, and Hollywood executives don't think a character who defies the traditional female girlfriend/wife or defenseless victim will be accepted. I think that the spectators are willing to support that evolutionary step in action cinema, but Hollywood is too slow regarding paradigm changes (just look at how long they took to accept digital distribution), so we might end up seeing Carano's daughter or granddaughter finding a more equitable field to fight against terrorists, drug dealers and Russian mobsters (or whoever the trendy villains will be in 20 years from now... they will probably be Google executives). But well, leaving that feminist tirade aside, In the Blood isn't a very good film, and Carano's performance is the main aspect which makes it moderately entertaining and worthy of a slight recommendation despite its mediocrity.
