The movie really just wants to entertain people.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

If there is one thing to say about this film is that it is original. I enjoyed watching the film(On Netflix), It was a different than the creepy house is haunted type horror that floods the cinemas. The screenplay is where this movie shines, Its very well done and had many twists and turns that I never saw coming. Although the movie is good and I found the screenplay well done, The movies has many false scares and a loud score to try an scare you. There are a few scares that are not false but they more help to keep the story going. I just wanted to see where it was going other than scenes that felt repetitive while watching. She does this few scenes later does the same thing, this movie felt longer than needed to make the story. It spoon feeds you information with exposition filled dialogue and explanations to every encounter. Overall I enjoyed the movie but left me with nothing to really think about. I don't think I need to watch it again other than watching it with a friend. It earns a 6/10.

Absolutely a kick-ass horror-comedy from the Kiwi. In a horror, usually we expect too much, particularly we calculate them according to how much it scares us. That's a tough job for the filmmaker, but when the comedy tag was attached to it which makes even tougher. In this kind of theme, very rarely people say they're satisfied enough and this is one of those. Yep, a surprise film written and directed by a newcomer. Since it is a New Zealand film, I don't anybody from it, but they all were excellent. Particularly the lead woman was unbelievably good, totally loved her, kind of reminds Nia Vardalos of 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' fame and her expressions too matches for in this film. The story was familiar, even some part of it can be compared to the recent film 'The Boy'. Likewise, other pieces from different films, but I did not care, because it still looked fresh of its own. The way it was developed contributed to the film's success and those suspense lived up to the hype that were made in the early stage of narration. The woman who won't get scared easily, finally meets her ultimate fear after returning to her mother's house where she grew up. But only to discover the house is haunted, followed by mysterious events and the final confrontation between her and whoever on the opposite.Great setting with the awesome performances, and always keeps us on the edge. But the laughs were delivered in the form of black comedy. The twists and turns make the film to flip to the opposite side after reaching at one point of the narration leaving the viewers to judge how strongly it linked to its genre. But I don't think most of them care about that since they're already entertained and only going to witness the final thrilling conclusion. I hope there won't be any follow up, because this one-off film was one of the best from the down under, so I don't want it to be ruined, like they do in the Hollywood. Recommended, you will enjoy it even your rating does not meet what I've given.7/10

Is it scary? No not really, nothing that hasn't been done. The acting is mediocre and the main characters have no redeeming qualities. It's hard to connect with a spoiled apathetic brat. Ten minutes into the movie I was hoping she would die violently. I don't much care for the parents either. I honestly spent the entire movie hoping the evil wins and they all die terribly. There is far better suspense/horror movies out there. Sure there are far worse ones too but I wouldn't waist your time with a clichéd horror movie that can't even give you characters you can care about. I give it a three out of ten for not being that scary, mediocre acting and story.

If you don't know or can't decide what genre of film to watch, Housebound is the one, great storyline involving horror, comedy, action, drama, mystery, crime and probably some others too. You think a film mixing that many genres up which be a terribly made film, but this film is other wise. The movie was a great surprise, I was expecting another same old horror, but it turned out to be more than horror, it was just brilliant. Cinematography wasn't anything amazing but it great for this type of film and worked well. In the tone of the film actually kept me on edge but it didn't frustrate me though. It actually made the film very enjoyable and surprising. Moving on to the music and sound, well truly, I don't think even took much notice of it, maybe that just means it wasn't as outstanding soundtrack but it also wasn't terrible enough me to notice it. The acting was absolutely great. So in the end, this film was a surprising thrill to watch. I recommend to anyone who can't decide what to watch or what genre to choose. But also to those who want a surprise and a mystery without without it hurting your head.
