It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

Unparalleled development of three characters flawed only bc Henry begins as such an unbelievable loser. The tempo is beautiful, rising to genuine theater in the final scene. One of the best low-budget films I've ever seen.

Henry's Crime is about a man without a purpose caught in the middle of a thing he is blissfully and stupidly unaware of. Preposterous as it might all seem when you begin to understand what he is going to do, this film actually seizes the viewer into watching it till the end.Keanu Reeves plays Henry, the one who finally understands what life should be like, drawing on Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard and its symbols and values. (I guess the people who are also into theatre will appreciate the screenplay even more.)While trying to give meaning to his own life, he also does so for his only true friend, Max, superbly performed by James Caan, and for an aspiring actress whom he falls for, Julie, again wonderfully rendered by Vera Farmiga. All these characters help each other in the movie and are bound together through this unexpected but appropriate association with Chekhov's play.I found myself laughing as in a real comedy a few times during the film, and I can honestly say that it is worthy of Guy Ritchie's comical gangster plans. If you liked LSTSB and Snatch, give this one a try as well. It's different, but it's also there. And Keanu is a good actor. A good actor!

Since I didn't read very much about it before I saw this film, I was pleasantly surprised. They pulled off a play within a movie. It was dark and funny and real and unreal. I love how they played with a classic piece of drama. What exactly is Henry's Crime? His real crime is not the obvious answer. Many of us are committing this crime every day of our lives. The movie has not been promoted enough. I Live in Buffalo and I just kept forgetting to see it. Keanu Reeves plays his character perfectly and you do see a slow change or awakening in the 'affable' Henry. James Caan has definitely 'still got it' and was acting circles around everyone else, but he is a master. Vera Farmiga is a delight and a very real person, she reminds me of a lot of my friends. A lot of people that live here might say that Buffalo was portrayed as 'too gray', well, it is gray in the winter. If there were a word for more gray, I would use it to describe Buffalo in November. One scene takes place in a Chinese restaurant just a few blocks from my house. It is beautiful inside, I wish they had shown more of it in the movie. I had Christmas dinner there with family just a few hours ago, maybe that's what prompted me to watch this film tonight. The ending is different, some reviewers didn't like it, it does feel improvised, but somehow matching perfectly the non-improvised portions of the temperamental director taking down the lights. I would definitely watch it again, it's the kind of movie where you will see things you missed the first time.

This comedic film, "Henry's Crime" is well worth watching for its entertainment value alone. It is not a masterpiece by any means, however, it is fun to see and relaxing for the brief viewing. The screenplay is by Sacha Gervasi and David N. White, and it is slick to say the least. There are several stories incorporated into one big belly laugh, and it is well woven to surprise and entertain. Keanu Reeves is the lead character, Henry Torne, and he is well cast with perfect timing and humor. James Caan plays Max Salzman, the cohort in crime who is brilliant as the newly released con with induced ideas that boggle the mind. It is a great comedy and having been released in 2010 can be seen on Blue Ray disc with exceptional quality. Don't miss a fun filled evening with "Henry's Crime" as your center piece.
