A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

Godzilla vs Gigan: A ReviewEasily my least favorite entry in the 70's Showa series. Not only are the characters completely vapid and one-note (The main character draws manga, that's his only characteristic), but the movie takes quite a long time to get going, and when it does, it's extremely dull.I'll admit, the concept of a tag-team battle is very cool, and great when done right, but that is not the case here. The final battle between Godzilla, Anguirus, Ghidorah, and Gigan lasts for WAY too long. The re-usage of footage (The shot of Anguirus slamming into Ghidorah is reused two or three times, and the bit where Godzilla slams Ghidorah into the ground is reused another three times, etc, etc) becomes monotonous, and the fact that the footage is also slowed down in some places also makes the fight even more tedious to watch (Yes, I know footage is usually slowed down to make the men in the suits look like lumbering giants, but that just makes the non- slowed-down footage look even more jarring compared to the slowed- down footage). Not only is the footage reused multiple times, but the fight itself is extremely repetitive in some places (there's a part where Gigan flies upward only to be shot down by Godzilla, Gigan uses this tactic three or so times, all of which occurred in complete succession).Something that is done well, however, is the usage of Ifukube's soundtrack. Despite the fact that 90% of it is recycled, the tracks that were used fit the mood of some scenes quite well. For example, the scene where the main characters are researching the origins of the Chairman uses a track that's usually associated with a military march, and it works surprisingly well. So, basically, I don't like this movie. If you do, that's fine.

...and i don't regret it one bit. This is classic kid-friendly Godzilla, doing for man what man can't do for himself; fend off yet another alien invasion by interstellar miscreants with a disgusting secret. The characters are dynamic, and again kid friendly, and the actors who play them actually do a fairy decent job of it, making the film that much easier to enjoy. And, as for Gojira himself, we get to witness the more dynamic and athletic Godzilla battle yet again the aliens' secret weapons; a couple of space monsters; Gigan and King Ghidorah!Accompanying Gojira is Megaruis, a.k.a. Anzilla from "Godzilla's Revenge", but, like the well meaning best friend who comes to support his buddy, he's more monster fodder than anything else. However corny, hokey, and sometimes just plain fake the Japanese effects are, there's something really compelling about Godzilla that brings us back for more.If you're single, pop in a copy for a trip down memory lane. If you have a family, then watch it with your son and enjoy some bonding time with the king of all monsters.Enjoy!

Godzilla and a giant alien chicken. Great stuff. It's back to the very basic for Godzilla after many were disappointed by the previous effort (I loved it). It kind of throws away everything Godzilla started as. Now we have a fairly kid friendly film, in which aliens design an amusement park in the hopes of controlling some of the monsters from monster island. Because giant monsters are the greatest way to attract families away from their mundane lives. A manga artist uncovers this bizarre plot and soon the aliens release their own monster, Gigan. Fun fights and frolics abound, even if these movies are getting rather crowded.

"Godzilla vs. Gigan" isn't up to par with the rest of the films in the Godzilla series. The acting is average at best, there isn't much action until the end of the film and the dubbing is terrible. The monsters themselves are pretty cool and I did enjoy the scene where Godzilla and Anguirus speak to each other in distorted English! As far as the aliens invading earth, Toho Studios decided on intelligent cockroaches. Umm...OK. Not the most effective part of the plot(if one can call it that). This is typical Godzilla-style mayhem and fans of the big G will want to check this out once. If you're not a fan, skip it. There are much better Godzilla films out there.
