In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

What a tremendous drama this another version of Romeo and Juliette or WEST SIDE STORY, where two families fight against each other because of a young Turkish bride who runs away on the wedding day to take refuge in her Gypsy lover's arms...Guess the following events. The most amazing here is the Celine Sallette's terrific performance, one of her best up today, as a dedicated youngster educator who fights like a dog, to prevent the drama between the two communities. Tony Gatlif is a director specialized in movies speaking of lesser people, especially gypsy one. He is a true master in depicting social despair, poor people's griefs. See for instance LES PRINCES OR GADJO DILLO.
