A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

As others report this is quite an impressive effort, there are much worse movies you can watch. It is entertaining, and the plot is good enough. You will not even notice much that there was not a lot of money. In a car chase the fugutive hunters deliberate about putting a helicopter in the sky. "There is no time", they conclude. All males are obese. Is this the start of a new genre? After blaxploitation now obeseploitation? Fat good guys hunting fat bad guys? Let's have donuts, hot dogs and shoot our guns? Heavy weight kung-fu? Quite a change after the skinny martian arts specialists and the regular American six-pack action heroes. That all male characters are obese is not very disturbing, sometimes I noticed though, which pulled me away from the storyline. I'm not sure if this new attempt to a genre is a good idea, therefore.

Normally I'm one to enjoy a mindless action movie regardless of writing, acting or directorial style. These are generally good movies to watch as entertainment in the background. Last night I queued up "Fugitive Hunter." I was disappointed. This movie didn't succeed at anything. It was too flat to have any sort of compelling drama, the action was too badly-choreographed to get any adrenalin flowing, and the movie too itself too seriously to gain any significant "camp" value. The writing and directing were not only sub-par, they were almost laughably bad. Unfortunately they weren't so bad as to inspire actual laughter, but rather only a disbelieving sidelong stare. Maybe if it's 3AM and you can't sleep and this movie is on cable it might be worth tuning in for a few minutes, but I just can't recommend spending any money on this flick.

Why do people have to copy films they see instead of making something original? There is nothing new or interesting in this movie. It looks like a bad DV movie. Rehashes of tired slo-mo shooting scenes, that are poor copies at that, and staged fights. Don't people realize that it's the film that shows something different and unique or weird that gets noticed? Seems like the filmmakers in Sacramento are still trying to ride the coattails of Blood, Guts, and Octane. A fluke of film that happened to hit at a time right when that whole indie Clerks/Pulp Fiction thing was big. But this is the to be expected, the outcome of mediocrity. I just hope one day people will wake up and see that.

I viewed this film privately during an acquisitions meeting in Santa Monica. I was somewhat interested in the general premise of this film but wasn't sure of how it would deliver. After a few minutes I realized that this was a gem of a micro-budget film. It follows an engaging story line that gets straight to the point, while not being obvious. The characters are unique. The dialogue is rough, but funny. The overall tone of the film follows more of a 80's action flick. Due to the film's lack of budget there are no special effects, but believe it or not it's not missed. Don't let the budget ($80k) deter you from watching this as the producers of this film stretched every dollar as far they could. The film actually looks like it could have easily cost close to $1 Million.Overall, this is great piece of film that nobody will probably watch. It's also a great learning tool for those that wish to make films on the dime. I don't know if there's going to be a commentary on the DVD or not, but it would be a good idea. I recommend this film to anyone that enjoys taking a risk on something that they normally wouldn't see.
