The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

Samantha Mackenzie (Katie Holmes) has always been a sweet proper girl and the only daughter of the President (Michael Keaton). She is going off to college and the strict Secret Service protection doesn't always fit. She falls for student James Lansome (Marc Blucas). However the president is in his re-election campaign and James isn't who she thinks he is.It's always odd to note that this was directed by Forest Whitaker, but he seems to like these light rom-coms. And this is the lightest of rom-com especially in the first half. Katie Holmes is playing a stiff character and isn't allowing the comedy to come through. The movie does improve slightly with the twist for about 15 minutes, but then it falls apart with a flat unimpressive ending.

This story has been done many times before, and better. But it has not been done more attractively. Forest Whittacker shows some talent as a director, but the script lets him down somewhat. It is not that there is anything really wrong with the movie; it just fails to deliver any kind of true punch. One waits for something major to happen, and it never really does. The title character, played by Katie Holmes, is just too good. She keeps her composure and suffers silently, but never really seems to break out. Her chemistry with a male student is good, but we kinda know that he is more than he appears. How do we know? Because we have seen it all before and this rendering did not try to vary or surprise. There is no chemistry at all between Holmes and her room-mate, played by Amelie, who is touted to be a well off kid, a BAP, but turns into the irritating know-it-all black character from the hood who has to teach the dumb white person how to live. Also surprisingly flat is Michael Keaton's portrayal of the president/father character. He does not come off particularly presidential or fatherly; Keaton is capable of better. The movie is a pleasant watch, but don't get your hopes up for any big turning point, as in, say, Guarding Tess. I hope Whittacker tries again and refines his director's chops with a better script.

Samantha Mackenzie, (Katie Holmes) plays the role of a President's daughter who has to live under the close rules of the White House and has Secret Agents always at her elbows no matter what she does and really has no life of her own. Michael Keaton, (President Mackenzie) is a good President and loves his family but like any President he has very little time to spend with this wife or daughter. James Lansome, (Marc Blucas) is a Secret Agent who is Samantha's special body guard and after being with her for quite a few years, begins to fall in love with her and does not seem to realize what is happening. However, Samantha feels a great warmth growing inside of her whenever she see James Lansome and a spark starts to become a flame between the two of them. There is some behind the scenes between these two lovers and all kinds of problems come between Samantha and James. This story is very realistic as I am sure many such things have happened in the White House with quite a few First Daughter's. Enjoy.

Wow !! I love this movie First Daughter..Such a refreshing and sweet one. The chemistry between Katie and Marc is just so amazing and beautiful. I do not watch English movies that much but I just happen to watch this movie in a TV channel and I go bowled over by the simplicity and sweetness of the movie. Since then I check that TV channel every now n then in hope that First Daughter may have been broad casted. Katie looks simple yet so beautiful. Marc is also so very good looking. Storyline is an interesting one. Presentation is equally interesting. But the ending of the movie is little kind of unsatisfying. I Wish it could have ended in a better way. Never the less, I love it.
