The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

This movie places an importance on family over career, and apparently that's controversial and offensive nowadays. This movie was a little dull, but overall a great family movie. I was actually surprised that a movie describes 'being a mom' as more important than financial success. As far as everyone calling this sexist, the husband and wife both sacrifice a high end lifestyle for their family. The parents are great with their kids, overall a loving family. (Spoiler) I also liked that she couldn't 'undo' her decisions, but was just given the choice to change her future instead of her past. Honestly I think the show would've been a bit better if she took the job and was able to have a successful career and a family, there are many amazing people who can do both, and it's very admirable. But I don't think it's 'bad' that she only chose her family and gave up the career, since being a good parent is the most important job imo. it just would have been a better story if she had both

A successful career woman lives well in San Francisco (the common Hallmark movie trope "Big City = Bad, Small Town= Good" is in effect) but she is so burned out and depressed, that she can't even bother to make friends or even decorate her fancy high rise (seriously, it barely looks lived in). When expressing a moment of doubt to Santa, he opens up the door to an alternate reality where that career is replaced by a family. She doesn't recognize her children, has no domestic skills, and feels completely overwhelmed. This is not what she wished for. She may think she prefers her old life as a single career woman, but Santa shows her that can't possibly be true. Despite her many protestations, she just doesn't know her own mind like he does.

SPOILER ALERT!This move set women back at least 50 years! I was so disappointed. I love Hallmark movies and look forward to the Christmas movies every year but the message this movie gives is horrible. Basically, women can't have a career AND a family and should choose to stay at home. The main character of the movie gives up her boyfriend to take a job in the city and has a very successful career as a TV reporter. He contacts her online after many years so she starts thinking about what would have happened if she had stayed with him. She gets the opportunity after talking to Santa and ends up waking up in the suburbs married with two kids. In this alternate reality she is a stay-at-home mom but misses her career. She ends up getting the attention of the station she works for in the alternate reality and they offer her a job. Her husband gets upset and makes her feel guilty so she doesn't take the job. Her boss even tells her that if she take this job she can only love her career. What is that about? There are many reporters with families. I'm sure they would find this insulting! It had promise and I was thinking the message would be to find the right balance to have both if that's what you want. There's nothing wrong with a career and there's nothing wrong with being a stay-at-home mom but why can't you have both a career and family? Many people do!

Each of us find ourselves unexpectedly facing an alternate life different than our current life and that's what this Hallmark Channel Original Christmas Movie is about. After talking to a Salvation Army Santa (or is he?), a successful TV news anchorwoman (played by the wonderful Lacey Chabert) finds herself in an alternate life where she is married to her former lover and have daughters of their own.The film's story did had some minor flaws, but the acting from all the actors and everything else about the film is excellent. It was a smart move for Hallmark to release this film during their annual Christmas in July movie marathon this year. We all need a break from Summer madness from time to time.
