n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

It's hard to imagine that fans of Evangelion won't be pleased with this leaner, gorgeous rebuild of the original anime series. And if you're new to Evangelion, this is a great place to start. You Are (Not) Alone is a pretty straightforward adaptation of the first six episodes of Evangelion. It's somewhat condensed but still containing all the major moments and plot points. While the next three movies promise new story additions and characters, this movie contents itself with mostly cosmetic changes, along with tightening up the story, a few extra scenes, and eliminating some filler. There wasn't a lot in the first six episodes that needed to be altered. That means slightly less whining from Shinji. SLIGHTLY.The animation and visuals are outright beautiful, especially on blu-ray. I could recommend this on that aspect, alone. The re-designed Angels and action scenes are improvements over the original's (especially the sixth Angel), in my opinion and the voice work is great.Does You Are (Not) Alone make the original series redundant and unnecessary (or vice-versa)? No, I don't think so. Both of them have merit, and both are worth watching. But, I'm very interested in seeing if the next three Rebuild of Evangelion movies rectify some of the mistakes that the latter portion of the series fell prey to.

Back around 2005, Hideki anno came up with an idea for an amine that not only will astound but also question the fundamentals of religion as well as the psychosis of human nature at its best and worst. I must say around that time the idea of, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and it's trailer was a push back in my thoughts but after seeing the very first episode of the series i was instantly hooked right up to its questionable ending. A year (and a couple of threats later) Anno, tied up all lose ends and even help answer some questions for the newbies in "Death and rebirth" and "End of Evangelion" which i say gone down as one of the best end all anime's so far but also the most mind screw ones cause you have to be either high or drinking to understand some of the plot points in the movie (which isn't a bad thing!...LOL).Now in 2007, Hideki Anno does it again but only this time he's doing it a bit bigger and in fact better for those that are new and those that are already fans (such as myself) in Evangelion 1.0: You are (Not) alone. Now don't be mistaken for a all new Evangelion event cause this is NOT this is in fact a remake of a series (which is taking place in four parts covering the whole series in a 1 hour and 38 min movie) which i felt when i look at it now was missing a lot from it as far as emotional and deep rooted connections now this time all of that is placed back in with a all new backdrop, a deeper understanding for the hero of the story, and a much more updated action scenes which are indeed a bit longer. The story covers the tale of Shinji Ikari a 14-year old boy who is going thru one big emotional downpour after another, sometimes you feel bad for him and then the next you want to shake this kid to death cause he's so self doubtful but either case this remake offers a much more inner focus into his mind and his trails as he becomes on his way to becoming a hero or anti-hero depending on your outtake. What caught my attention was not just the added story depth, but now the update in music which i must say its the music that moved me; and also added new feature, "CGI" for most of the anime which is great considering that some of the angels in the story I felt that they weren't getting their stronger appeal and i felt needed a lot more feel (specifically for Ramiel near the end which was the BEST). The connection between Shinji and Rei is also added more strongly giving Shinji a bit of hope where he felt hopeless each character has more facial strengths, more adamant emotions, and also more roots into their background which gives a better understanding but that's not all to this story and by the end of watching this i was already hoping to see 2.0 i'm 28 and i'm jumping like a kid at Christmas seeing how so much as been put now into this remake let's hope the next three will be just as grand.10/10 Story 10: For those that already know the story you will be treated to the same story but with a all new deeper plot and understanding; for those that are new to the story will be treated to not just the the best looking art direction and CGI add-ins, but with a greater knowledge of the characters even if the movie is 1 hour.Development 9/10: The development in this story is still strong if not better than the original series; The characters seem to know their place and then some. The connections are so strong that you start to sometimes relate to most of them and it makes the story just as grand but also it takes out some of the crap that was in the original making each person in this movie more human in their directions.Music 10/10: I loved the soundtrack to this movie. It gets to you in ways that a present gets to a kid. especially when Shinji first enters the Eva i loved that part of the movie the music was gripping and updated so well that I was impressed.General 10/10: You might can call this the Perfect version of Evangelion but everyone has a different taste to what they like; But this version is re-drawn, revised, and added in some new elements that most fans wanted to see in the original but never got to see; and for newcomers more stronger knowledge for Evangelion even the controversial ones. This is the first movie covering 1-6 of the original series in its entirety filling in all gaps and adding in some new elements to make a person want more...this is the definitive series and i'm very pleased by it.

I knew it was supposed to be a summarized version of first quarter of the original Evangelion TV series, but I expected more new scenes or at least major difference in every scene like the Doraemon remake "Nobita no kyôryû 2006" (Nobita's Dinosaur 2006). The animation retains the original 1995 style and definitely more detailed compared to anything made in the '90s, but nothing remarkable compared to most other 2007 anime films. Practically all scenes are produced using the original storyboard and layouts devoid of any new camera angles or cuts. In fact, it's better to prepare yourself for a "digitally remastered recap" release than anything new. TV-anime/OVA and theatrical features work on completely different level of budgets and deadlines. Animation quality in this film is so-so at best in movie standards. The new 3D Angels, especially Ramiel, were protrusive against the 2D cel animation in the background.I have only watched the TV series twice, when it was aired in 1995 (missed 3 or 4 episodes), and once more in 2003. For me, it was a carbon copy of the TV series, except a few new scenes of mechanical aspects of "New Tokyo 3" and the teaser in last 30 seconds of the film. Other than slight improvement in graphics, which I can barely notice because my eyes are used to much better animation in recent years, I have detected no difference in 98% of the screen time. What I'm trying to say, is that I wasted 100 minutes of my life watching a long rerun. To be honest, I didn't like the TV series at all. I enjoyed the first few episodes as I did for many Japanese mecha series, but they focused too much on Ikari Shinji's hesitation and despair in piloting Eva after that point. I watched this film in hope that maybe I was too young to fully appreciate this series back then, and enjoy more this time, but even after 26 episodes and a rerun movie, Ikari Shinji only seems nothing more than a really dumb and weak kid who likes to exaggerate his emotions all the time. It was frustrating to watch, and in the end, the only thing I gained from watching this 'movie' was a 30 second teaser for the upcoming sequel.Maybe anime otakus who watched the TV series over and over can spot subtle differences and get a kick out of it, but for a casual anime viewer like me, it was a 100 minute long rerun. It wasn't even a movie. I don't understand why the producers felt the need to make this so-called cinematic release other than reviving a dead franchise for the sole purpose of making more money.Frankly, I am very shocked and disappointed to see this so-called movie's comments on IMDb were all rave reviews. I hope I Am (Not) Alone in this sentiment.

I saw this movie only yesterday and have been a huge Evangelion fan for over 8 years and were not at all disappointed, quite the contrary. I remember seeing an episode when I was only 8 years old (yes I'm 16) and found the story fascinating, the animation slick, and the plot deeper than any public-fiction piece in modern times. Evangelion Rebuilt 1.0 You are (not) alone delivers everything its massively-popular and much loved ancestor established in 1991, doubles the coolness and really makes good on the IP. Now to the story itself and all the technical stuff; the movie only covers up until the end of the fight of Ramiel the 6th Angel (yes you heard right, 6th). The story maintains its consistency with the original plot for the most part with a few small changes relating to what was said and done, when. At the end of the movie I left feeling as if the novelty of Evangelion had just come charging back like a stampeded of steroid-juiced T-Rex's. I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed it, especially the final fight - watch and awe. Animation is brilliant, plot is just as good as it was 17 years ago, and the action scenes are blistering - very much improved. Some would ask, "if you're an Envangelion fan and loved it why only 9/10". The answer is that the movie was truly great but I reserve the 10s for the really 'perfect' movies. I would give it 9.5 stars if it was possible. In summary Eva 1.0 is a great movie for fans and even newbies. If the the next movies are any better than 1.0 i'll be giving out some 10s for sure. Judging by the preview of 2.0 at the end I'm sure the Eva movie quartet will only improve from here on in. At the end of the day it is up to you to make your own decision on it, but if you're reading this I'm gathering that you are a NGE fan so am sure to enjoy this movie. Surely the only bad thing about this movie is the wait until 2.0Score 9.5/10
