Drinking Buddies Trailers

Weekend trips, office parties, late night conversations, drinking on the job, marriage pressure, biological clocks, holding eye contact a second too long… you know what makes the line between “friends” and “more than friends” really blurry? Beer.

Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

I really wanted to like this movie. I love the cast members and had high hopes but was sorely disappointed.

To rate this one star is seriously REACHING. I decided to watch because of the great cast and storyline. Well, was I ever disappointed. Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson act like immature children who shouldn't be in relationships to begin with. Anna Kendrick's character is obviously not a good match for Johnsons. BUT for some reason they stay together? It's an unrealistic view of relationships. At least, no relationship I'd like to be involved in. I'm a young, married person. I find the fact that not ONE person in this movie was able to stay loyal, quite disgusting and disappointing. I understand wanting to have fun and drink, but this is extreme. Wilde and Johnson are both alcoholics. The ending is one of the worst I've seen. SPOILER ALERT: It doesn't seem like Wilde and Johnson end up together, but really, we have no idea. It's left to interpretation, which can end up being intriguing (Inception) OR horrible - this film. Don't waste your time like I did.

There are some movies out there which often create a cavernous divide among the audience. This is one of them. Not every painting appeals to every observer, and at times the beauty is often missed for many reasons. However in this film I think that beauty was indeed momentarily captured.I commend the Director/writer Joe Swanberg, and the lead performances by Jake and Olivia. Not only for their courage in creating this film and allowing so much of the script to be done ad lib (which I think is a big deal and hope catches on) but also because there was an incredible precision and tenderness in portraying what is often a very awkward fragility that comes about when bonding so closely with a friend of the opposite sex. A bond which can be so tragically beautiful, confusing, painful and frustrating all at the same time! There is one scene towards the end, where both of the main characters are sat awkwardly in silence eating lunch with one another after a seriously painful argument the previous evening in which the truth of the love between them cataclysmically failed to manifest physically. The funny thing was that the silence in that scene was deafening. Nothing was said or needed to be said, they're subtle interaction was enough.Sometimes the magic is in the detail and honesty! The cast were given the freedom to find and share it with us, and for that I am grateful and give this film a 10.

This is why people hate independent films. I love independent films, just not one that epitomizes what (can be) wrong with them. This film could literally be 45 minutes long. The director insists on extending shots that would be much more effective if they were shorter: for example, people driving in awkward silence in a car - the camera lingers and lingers on them, as if the director thinks that the audience needs time to understand. We got it, it's awkward, there's tension. This happens repeatedly. The actors are terrific, but the story is frustrating. I don't need a Hollywood ending, but after awhile, these two people, that you're initially rooting for, are just manipulative and annoying and foolish. And Ron Livingston is heinously wasted, disappearing halfway through. What looked like it would be a charming gem turned out to be just a forgettable waste of time.
