(1966) were the first time the good Doctor was ever seen in colour and on the big screen. The films, directed by Gordon Flemyng, remain the doctor’s only cinematic outings and feature the legendary Peter Cushing as everyone’s favourite timelord alongside a supporting cast that includes Roy Castle, Bernard Cribbins, Jennie Linden and Roberta Tovey.

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
