Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

Such an amazing movie! It's one of the great soviet musicals of 80's but unfortunately less known than some others... Not only for kids but i think adults will enjoy it too. Full of allegories, this fairy-tale is rather sad but light and hopeful. Once seen, it can't be forgotten... I first saw it in the early childhood and then i haven't seen it for many years. Having seen it recently i was astonished how it still looks exciting and interesting for me... The songs are great, both the lyrics and the music. Patrick's "Ne pokiday" and "Nadezhda" keep playing in the mind even when the movie is over. And the most charming prince in Russian (and soviet) cinema!

A very nice and romantic film for kids. Excellent songs, excellent humour. The chancellor is a must-see, and his wife is the second-best 'evil woman' after Cruella De Veil. And the moralization part is blended very nicely into the plot.
