After many years, I have truly witnessed something with heart and soul. This animated film will endure the tides of time and will captivate young and old with its simple message of love and innocence.I am reminded of Jesus saying,"You parents--if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? " This truly is the core of the film. A selfish man looks past the promise of personal gain to help someone that loves him for what he is.We all live in a pretentious world. We often make hard choices, sacrificing less for others and more for ourselves. The one who has a child-like at heart, who has retained strong impressions of when he was a youngster playing with his parents, has something quite wonderful to give to society. But this is rarely so in today's environment. We are told brutally to "grow up fast" by our parents and to start making something of ourselves in life and make a lot of money. This pressurization of timid youngsters into setting a big goal often destroys whatever is left of their character. They are often depressed, have an inferiority complex and worse still, think the whole world hates them.Back to the film: Curious George is the main protagonist of a series of popular children's books by the same name, written by Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Rey. The books feature a curious brown monkey named George, who is brought from his home in Africa by "The Man with The Yellow Hat" to live with him in a big city. The introduction of the movie is a cartoon short where we are introduced to a happy, artistic, and mischievous but lonely little monkey somewhere in the jungle. Ted (Will Ferrell) is an employed guide at the Bloomsberry Museum. We are introduced to teacher Ms. Maggie Dunlop (Drew Barrymore) and her students who come to the museum often but they are the only regular visitors. Mr. Bloomsberry (Dick Van Dyke) heartbreakingly informs Ted that the museum will have to close, because it is no longer making any money. Bloomsberry's son, Junior (David Cross), wants to tear down the museum, and replace it with a parking garage. Ted is convinced to volunteer to go to Africa in place of Mr. Bloomsberry and bring back a mystical, forty-foot-tall idol known as "Lost Shrine of Zagawa" in the hopes that it will attract customers, much to Junior's envy. Ted is outfitted with a hideous yellow suit (which causes people to laugh at him), and boards a cargo ship to Africa despite his embarrassment. With the help of a tour guide and tour group, Ted finds the "Lost Shrine of Zagawa", but discovers it to be only three inches tall, much to his disappointment. Ted also encounters the little monkey on his expedition to Africa, and gives the monkey his yellow hat. The monkey, who quickly grows fond of Ted, follows him and boards the cargo ship, unknown to Ted.Verdict: the whole family can sit down and enjoy this superb animated film. I can thoroughly recommend this one for three year olds and up.

Even for w kids movies, this was extremely awful. Full of bad lines and slow animation, this comes off as a cheap buck and not much else. And the only talent that was willing to lend to lend their talents was Will Ferrell as the Man in the Yellow Hat.Anyway, Ferrel travels to Africa to find an ancient monument to bring back. The museum's directer is OK with him going there, but the son of the museum director wants Ferrell to fail and thus tried to change the information Ferrell has to destroy him. But with any kiddie film he was foiled ultimately and everything goes back to normal, except there being a monkey around.I was really hoping this might be OK with Ferrell in the mixture, but the bad lines and slow animation were just too much. I wish our children got better quality movies instead of this junk. "F"

I had been putting off watching Curious George for a while, but I'm not quite sure why. I love animation, I still love kids' entertainment in general, and I'm a huge Will Ferrell fan, but I think I had some fuzzy, distant memory that I didn't really care for the Curious George books (and maybe I had seen a couple of the early films when I was in high school) and I was vaguely aware of a negative buzz about this film. Well, putting it off was a mistake, because this is now easily one of my favorite films from 2006--everything about it is perfect, and I have to doubt my memory about previous Curious George works (I've already ordered one of the old books and films to check out). The first thing you notice is how gorgeous and unusual the animation is. It's highly stylized to create a complete fantasy world, and seamlessly combines high-tech and low-tech, cartoonish caricature and realistic computer-aided design. The plot, which is about Ted (Ferrell) venturing from a fantasy New York City to Africa to try to find a huge statue that would save the natural history museum he works for, may seem to be the weakest link, but that would come from misunderstanding the focus, which is instead on a number of abstract ideas and themes. The primary idea is relatively unusual but very welcome--a message about the extreme importance of curiosity, creativity and play. This is merged with a very positive Zen-like "go with the flow"/"live mindfully in the moment" theme, which is partially achieved via a stream-of-consciousness flow of various subplots that frequently, very enjoyably dip into silliness and absurdities. The main plot turns out to fit perfectly with this tone, as do the choices and performances of the voice actors, including Ferrell, Frank Welker, Eugene Levy, Dick Van Dyke, Drew Barrymore and David Cross. The Jack Johnson songs also set an unexpected but perfect mood for the film.

We saw this Curious George movie today as part of Regal's Free Family Film Festival. www.regalcinemas.com/freefamilyflicks/ I totally agree with the previous comment. It is a film for kids and the kids loved it. It held their attention for the full length of the film. While there was nothing that I recall that was over their head and directed towards adults like in Shrek, it was pleasantly entertaining nonetheless. It was certainly with the price of the movie (free) and the popcorn. My 4 year old cried when it was over because she wanted to see it again. My 22 month old actually paid attention for almost an hour and then he got antsy so we stood at the wall. Not the movie's fault. It is a simple, cute movie that you can safely take children of any age to without worrying about content. Now I must search for a copy of this movie to buy for home for my daughter!
