Why so much hype?

... View MoreCrying Heart (1999) is a rare drama picture from director Jing Wong. The movie follows the life of a mother Mrs. Fat(Deannie Yip) and her mentally handicapped son Bee (Patrick Tam). Bee has very few friends and Mrs. Fat does everything she can so Bee wont be placed in a special home. She tries to prepare Bee for life in case something should happen to her. A neighbor May (Suki Kwan) likes to tease Bee but she feels guilty about it because he's so slow. One day, all three of their lives are changed forever.I didn't know Jing Wong could make such heart heavy dramas. I love in slapstick comedies and parodies. But this film is very melodramatic and heartfelt. Be sure to have the tissue box nearby.Highly recommended
... View MoreThis is an incredibly moving film. The first half deals with a dying single mother's desperate struggle to ensure the future of her retarded son (Bee), while the second half focuses on the son's struggle. There are interesting portrayals of how society tends to mistreat the desperate and the not so fortunate. There is irony when May, who is one of these people and the subject of Bee's infatuation, finds herself in the opposite end of the spectrum. This film is excellently acted, you can't help but care for the characters, and it's also very believable, which makes it incredibly moving. Thoroughly recommended.. be forewarned though, a supply of tissues might come in handy! 10/10
