Don Barry was the James Cagney of B movie cowboy heroes, the small cocky bantam who always got his man. Occasionally that persona was also on the other side of the law just like Cagney. In Carson City Cyclone Barry stars as a newly minted lawyer who still sports two guns to settle arguments in an extralegal way if needed. He's making good money as a defense attorney despite his father honest and upright judge Noah Beery. The senior Noah Beery who usually played by guys is on the other side of the law here. He's happy for his son's success but wishes he would be upholding the law.Manufactured evidence and perjured testimony gets Don Barry's client off in a case before his father. The same evidence also frames Barry for suborning perjury. Top it all off his father is killed by the head of a gang who's been pulling safe robberies around the region.Carson City Cyclone has more anomalies in it. The usually reliable Roy Barcroft plays the prosecutor here and the head of the outlaw gang is in a profession not associated with villainy in the old west.Carson City Cyclone is an unusual and intriguing western.

Don "Red" Barry appears in this uniquely plotted B-western that was better than I had expected. Red plays a feisty, conceited barrister who must avenge a Judge's death----- and the Judge also happens to be his Dad !The pint-sized Barry was always known for his scrappiness, and this film showcases his fist-fights, six gun battles and grim determination. Noah Beery does a fantastic job playing Barry's straight-arrow father. All in all, this was a nice change of pace. The courtroom scenes, chases and action sequences were all enjoyable. One of Red Barrys best post-Ryder films............
