If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

I remember being "forced" to watch Miss Congeniality. Having no respect for pegeantries, which I still do not follow at all, I could not imagine that it would lead me to have respect for the contestants. But it did.I consider golf as much of a sport as video games, but remembering Miss Congeniality, I gave it a chance. I was underwhelmed. The tale of Bobby Jones deserve to be told many times over. The world would be a far better place if people are impressed and inspired by such characters. This movie, unfortunately, forgot at times it is titled Bobby Jones, not the game of golf. As I watched it, I thought to myself that all the beautiful scenery and mesmerizing musical scores only served to confirm my view of golf. It was not until it ended and I read various reviews that I remember the central character. This story spanned roughly two decades. Unfortunately, we did not get to know the supporting cast beyond the simple and the obvious. We didn't even see Jones much outside of golf. While this may stem from the director's desire to keep to historical facts, an admirable aim, it restricted the depth of the story. I'm not a film buff so I can't tell you what should have been done, but I can tell you it could have been much more than a golfer's favorite movie.

I urge you to see the Bobby Jones movie in question. If you do, you will see what a bad movie is all about. They simply do not make movies this bad very often.I figure that the ones posting "Great Movie!!!" on this site are desperately trying to get you to rent this awful thing for a very personal reason. They want you to spend your money so they can get a little of their investor money back.Go rent it... and then spread the word.Bobby Jones movie is laughably bad! AND--they even stole the title from the TITANIC THOMPSON:STROKE OF GENIUS book! Go figure!

I'm no golfer... it's akin to watching grass grow in my book so I had no idea who Bobby Jones was. Scandalous, I know. I picked up this film mainly because of Jeremy Northam and I don't mind Jim Cavieziel either. To my great surprise, I liked Stroke of Genius a lot. It had the same kind of impact on me the way Seabiscuit did. A moving tale about an individual overcoming enormous odds to achieve greatness. I didn't get the impression that it was sanitizing Bob Jones' life... but showed his struggle to overcome poor health and other shortcomings to be the champion he is now known to be. The acting is appropriately lowkey, the golf scenes wonderfully done (so says a non-golfer).All in all, a beautifully made piece of nostalgia.

OK....I am not a golfer and don't care about golf.. I wasn't going to watch the movie based solely on this, but it was just on TV, and I thought I would just watch a few minutes and see if it would be worth watching. It was!! It is a great movie even if you know nothing about golf and don't care about learning anything about golf. It is a wonderfully done movie with great historical information and a great group of actors and actresses who make the entire movie pleasurable. It follows the life on a golfing legend Bobby Jones, who started playing golf as a child and continued playing amateur golf and is the only person to win the Grand Slam of golf (ok, so maybe I don't remember what the name for the big thing he won, but it was 4 big golf championships). The movie is well worth the time to watch whether you love golf or know nothing about the game.
