Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Dracula travels to the American West, intent on making a beautiful ranch owner his next victim. Her fiancé, outlaw Billy the Kid, finds out about it and rushes to save her.My biggest question is, would people in the Old West know what a vampire was? Obviously the concept goes back a long time, but did Americans really know about vampires before Bram Stoker? I am not so sure. And yet, they throw the term around like it is common knowledge. That being said, this film seems to have a very low critical reception... unfairly. While not great, it is far from bad and really puts a new spin on the western. Were there many horror westerns before this? I think not, which makes it ground-breaking if nothing else.

This film is a pretty good "why not?" idea. Why wouldn't a vampire or Dracula that's been around for, supposedly, centuries travel to the American Frontier or, as we tend to call it today, the Wild West? Really, if Dracula has been around for centuries then it would be possible. Heck, why not? Why didn't they call Carradine Dracula in the film? Well there were many vampires in myth history that and not just Dracula - all the settlers knew was vampires were suppose to exist and may have never herd of Dracula during the American Frontier. Buy them not calling him Dracula in the film it made the film a bit more realistic in my opinion. And the tile of the film says Dracula for drawing power - makes sense to me.If you liked this film then check out the companion film Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966) also starring John Carradine. Makes for a fun double feature.7/10

There's been plenty of Cowboy Crossovers; The beast from hollow mountain, The Valley of Gwangi, Cowboys and Aliens- The list goes on. But, wither they hate it or love it, there is only one weird west crossover that stands out amongst the rest. This is my review on Billy the Kid Vs DraculaThe plot goes like this;An American vampire arrives in the old west in search of a woman to be his Un-dead bride. As he embarks on a stagecoach to a wild west town, his fellow passenger shows them a picture of their daughter,Elizabeth, who they were going to meet later that week. The vampire instantly falls in love with her an plans to make her his undead wife. He provokes the local native American tribe to attack the stage they are travelling in, so that he could kill off Elizabeth's Uncle and take his identity. Since they had never met, he could easily be mistaken as her Reletive. When he arrives at the town he runs into bother with a gunman-turned-farmer, previously known as Billy The Kid, who finds the vampire impostor suspicious. For a 60s "B" movie, Billy the Kid Vs Dracula is a very original wild west crossover. One of the most famous western figures Vs one of the most famous figures of film. What could go wrong? The Story, though it may drag at times, is quite entertaining. If you are a western fan, you will notice that it borrows ideas off some famous westerns. For example, the movie starts off like the main plot of the 30s John Wayne film, "Stagecoach". You've got your grumpy stage driver, moaning old woman, pale faced old man and the stereotypical drunkard, who were all present in the 1939 classic. Also, the Indian attack seemed like a diluted version of the final Indian attack in "Stagecoach". I don't know if it was intentional, but if it was, it was a nice wee nod to the early classic. The acting of the film is nothing special (apart from Dracula, who I will discuss in a moment). Chuck Courtney's attempt at playing the famous gunslinger, Billy, was decent, but you cant expect a high quality actor in a movie like this. Melinda Plowman, who plays Billy's Girlfriend Elizabeth, is quite annoying but is watchable. However, John Carradine nails his Dracula part perfectly. His performance is nothing to challenge the likes of Bela Lugosi, but they way he walks and talks sends shivers down your spine and it completely sells the character. Out of all the characters, John Carradine certainly plays the funnyest. There are some hilarious hypnosis scenes where he rolls his face inwards while his face glows like a tomato. People watching this barely smirk, which is strange because i know if I was being hypnotised by a person who made that face, I would burst out laughing. If you are looking for action, there wont be much to recommend though there is some shootouts, one resembling a shootout from the Duke's final film, the shootist. What is with this film and borrowing from John Wayne movies? Maybe it's me. The film also contains some fistfights that are also entertaining.Billy the Kid Vs Dracula was released back to back with another Weird west flick, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter which also pitted a famous historical figure against a famous monster. I sometimes wish they would have made more like "Butch cassidy Vs The creature From The Black Lagoon" or something similar. I also wish Hollywood would make more films like this now-a-days.This is an excellent, one of a kind B movie that deserves recognition. Im giving it a 9/10 and I highly recommend.

While the title is laughable, the production values were okay, as was the cinematography. The acting was...well...less than wonderful, but not bad enough to ruin the fun. Poor John Carradine..."Lo how the mighty have fallen" is about all one can say regarding his appearance in this film, but even old actors have to eat & pay bills, so we forgive him. There were quite a few old favorites working in this one. Roy Barcroft (everyone's favorite "bad guy" in almost all of the Rocky Lane movies), Bing Russell (yes, Kurt's daddy), Harry Carey Jr. with only a few lines early in the film, his mom, Olive Carey,(remember her from "The Searchers"?) as the town Dr., and a few others whose names won't ring any bells but whose faces are instantly recognizable to anyone who has ever seen a Western or a Cop movie/TV show. It was also fun to see the old Corriganville Movie Ranch sets again...a lot of fond memories for us old Western actors there! Chuck Courtney (the star),was quite a horseman. Watching him ride & handle his mounts was almost enough to make you forget that crummy rubber bat. He did a credible job of acting, & his fast draw skills were very good. I did some stunt work with him many years ago, & he was well respected in the industry as both a daring stuntman & a competent stunt coordinator. When you did a fight scene with him, it always looked real & no one got hurt. All in all, this movie is not a "great" horror classic, but it is fun to watch as light entertainment. A real "popcorn & beer" film for late night viewing.
