... View MoreIt is not only a funny movie, but it allows a great amount of joy for anyone who watches it.
... View MoreNot sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
... View MoreOne of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
... View MoreSo the original Skyline was... well, pretty pathetic for the most part. Some nice CG, but the writing and plot were terrible. And the acting was laughable at best.Beyond Skyline basically starts where the original left off, and turns it all on its head, giving us an actually enjoyable, well written, well acted, and fast paced alien invasion movie. Basically everything the first movie was supposed to be.The sequel not only improves on the original in every way, but it actually greatly expands the story and background of what's going on with the whole invasion, and makes it actually plausible (as plausible as alien invasions go). All the "alien magic" that never got a lick of explanation in the original is actually covered here, and most of it makes a lot of sense.Honestly, the best thing you can do is read a quick synopsis of the original movie, and just dive into this one. It's what alien invasion movies should strive to be.
... View MoreMark Corley (Frank Grillo) finds himself on a stalled subway as the alien invasion begins. LAPD cop Audrey (Bojana Novakovic) tries to keep the group on the train but they insist on leaving. Mark barely saves his hypnotized son Trent from being pulled up to the alien spaceship. The survivors travel along the underground. If the original is a B-movie, this is basically a C-movie. This follows a different group of survivors during that same assault. In the original, I found the last part to be problematic. This movie takes that last part and just keeps going. One also has to remember the red eyed alien from the original and his pregnant girlfriend. The brain thing really doesn't make logical sense. In the original, I took it as poetic license similar to aliens draining our blood in "War of the Worlds". I can't do that this time around since this builds a complete premise around it. At least, it's not a computer virus but it's not that far. For an alien futurism combat, there is way too much hand-to-hand fighting. This has its fun but I can't take it seriously.
... View MoreThere can be no denying this is a brilliant sci-fi production, and probably a lucrative franchise in the making. This is non-stop action and excitement from the beginning, and some scenes will no doubt leave you breathless. The visuals are fantastic, considering the small budget. Liam O'Donnell once again proves Hollywood does not have to fork out hundreds of millions of dollars to make good sci-fi films. So well done, Liam!I must admit, though, although I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, I did enjoy the first one more, but on a completely different level. 'Skyline' was more realistic and therefore more suspenseful and mysterious. 'Beyond Skyline' was pure sci-fi and concentrated more on the aliens and the alien ships, continuing the saga from where the first film ended. The ending screams for a sequel and to be quite honest, I can't wait to see the continuation of this great new franchise.Frank Grillo makes a really credible hero, so I hope to see him in the sequels.
... View MoreWhile the wait for this follow up movie took years, I will say that the wait was worth it. Well, if anyone was actually waiting for this movie as it was.The storyline in "Beyond Skyline" was just more compelling and interesting than it was in the predecessor. So that made for a more enjoyable movie experience. The CGI and special effects were quite amazing, as they also were in the first movie.Although this movie also has a proper storyline, whereas the first movie just was driven by CGI. That fact made for a more watchable movie, because it offered the audience more than just eye candy through fantastic CGI effects. They had a rather interesting selection of actors and actresses to perform in this movie.I was more than adequately entertained, and it was nice to see Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian together again on the screen."Beyond Skyline" is definitely a movie well worth watching if you enjoy the Sci-Fi genre, or if you were enjoying the first "Skyline" movie.
