Angelina Jolie and Clive Owens put such a great touch on this production with their truly convincing acting. They both seem to have personal investments in relief work for the refugees throughout the world and it came through in the film. Each new camp brought a special set of increasingly difficult obstacles for both to overcome. Him in his work, her in the love she felt for him.Through the corruption, disease, war and death the film takes you to places you haven't been before. Touching my very soul at some points it invoked all of my emotions and then some.It portrays the sad apathetic nature of governments turning a blind eye to human suffering in famine and war. A must see for the empathetic film viewer.

You might find this a good movie if you don't get a bad taste in your mouth watching a rather typical old fashioned love story in exotic settings, being played out among relief workers having real life tragedy all around them. If this movie pretends to really care for the unfortunate background characters, that really seems to be there to make our protagonists look heroic, it even does so in a very bad way. At no point are these people introduced to us as other than set pieces, colorful background. They are there to make you forget, that the Jolie character actually seems like an extremely selfish woman. She leaves her husband and later one, then again later two children, to run round the world seeking for true love (not that she cares much for the dying around her either, she's there for her man). And my argument for the romance being cliché? Well have the man first detest the woman (but hey, they are the stars, so we know where they'll end up) and her fighting for his respect (the only time Jolie seems to care for other people is till she gets his attention - again even the character use these unfortunate like props). Then changes of location, one more exotic and strange than the other (By the way, how does Africa look like, is that not something like earth tone color? And Tjetjenia is rather blue and it snows of course and you hear gun fighting every single second. We know the Jungle from Apocalypse Now, so we'll remake that). All in all boring, but worse distasteful. Only reason for this entry is that i read that Jolie is actually an ambassador for UN and these cases and wonder however she could agree to do this? The film does show some aspects of corruption and politics standing in the way of real aid, and that may be new to many? But far more interesting movies could be made on that subject, we don't need a love story as sugarcoating.

I loved this film. It reminded me of emotionally-stirring epics from past eras -- Dr. Zhivago, Gone With the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia. Perhaps that's why the cynical and heartless critics trashed it ... the romance is old fashioned, idealistic and pure; the characters are not addicted to alcohol, drugs or senseless shopping; there are no grunting sex scenes. The violence has a point. And yes, Angelina's character always looks too fashionably good and clean and gorgeous to be true to the horrific circumstances she finds herself in.It's a weeper, for sure. An eye-opener for the ignorant, uninformed and uncaring consumers of modern capitalism. A call to arms. Definitely not a typically pointless 21st Century American movie. Thankfully, Oliver Stone didn't get to direct.See it. Take out your handkerchiefs and your cheque books. This film might actually change your life.

The movie ran on local TV. I noticed it after the dialogs that caught attention. I began to watch and felt ashamed to go to sleep. I missed its title and came here to find out more.Stories in books, theater stage, or on screen usually don't go further than reflecting facets of individuals' characters in different life situations giving models of their worst and best qualities. This movie awakens compassion, which purifies heart deeply and very important to feel often. It is sharp and distinguished from what is being created these years.About Ms Joli. Very accurate playing, owing to synthesis of life experience and personal qualities. Very healthy energy. Balanced combination of clean heart, persuasive speech, and sincere acting. It exceeds nowadays commercial acting level. No matter else to say, words fall behind the feelings radiating by main character. Outstanding playing. Good movie. Thanks should be spread to everyone who created it.
