If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

This film truly disappoints, and here's why: it could have been truly great. The premise is wonderful. A mafia bodyguard spends years watching over the daughter of his boss, falls in love with her from afar, and then the boss is killed ... and the only way to continue to protect her is to reveal his identity to her. As the plot continues, she must depend upon him more and more for her survival, thus appealing to the better angels of his nature. What better catalyst to propel the plot than his protective instincts to feed the fires of his love? Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, it didn't turn out that way. Not even close...The problem is, the aforementioned plot treatment is not funny. Not even in the slightest. This could have been and really should have been a touching love story with a bit of comic relief, and that would have worked beautifully. Instead, this film is not even remotely funny, although it tries to be. To me, Stallone seems to play two characters in this film. One was the loyal bodyguard falling in love with his boss' daughter, the other was a good actor going through the motions of a script he clearly finds uninspiring. There are a few scenes in the film where Stallone shows his tender, engaging side, and several in which he just can't seem to find anything within himself to bring to this poorly developed screenplay. It is clear throughout the film that Stallone wants to be inspired by this screenplay, but how? I don't really blame Stallone, or even the lovely Ms. Stowe, for this film's ultimate demise. I blame the writers. A good idea for a film does not a great movie make. A good plot will grow in a particular direction, seemingly of its own accord, like a plant leaning towards the sunlight for its nourishment. This film needed to grow into a poignant love story, and a dramatic format, or perhaps even a tragic story-line, would have served the premise far better than did a comedic treatment. The screenwriters tried to force the plot of this film to be something that it wasn't, which is a recipe for disaster. This film should have been a drama, not a comedy. I just can't say that enough.Overall rating: 6 out of 10.

I really enjoyed this movie. Women will love this movie, most men will hate it. I feel this movie was poorly advertised, I never heard of it until recently when it was on TV. It was likely not advertised properly. If you like movies like; Only You, Legally Blonde, and so on that are light, usually predictable, with some laugh out loud moments you will enjoy this. Nice to see Stallone not be this Hollywood oiled up creation to be a tough guy, let's be real he is like 5'8". This is a movie you sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy.Madeline Stowe is a well off unhappy housewife, forced to let her 8 year old son go to boarding school, she gets wrapped up in romance novel book clubs and develops a crush on the writer (a very good looking Italian) while her husband is sleeping with her best friend. She learns, from Stallone, he has been watching her to protect her and in love with her since she was a girl. He lets her know of her real identity, her parents were paid to adopt her, her adoptive father is gay, her biological father was a mob boss who was murdered and she decides to get revenge and take control of her life to find peace and happiness. I really enjoyed this flick, my husband went into another room to watch Sports Center.

I always thought that this film never got a cinematic release because of Stallone's string of flops, back then. I was wrong!!!'Avening Angelo' is a classic example of decent actors wasted over shallow writing and awful direction. The screen-play (if there was one) is just awful and the director Martyn Burke has no idea where to go with it.The actors, both Sly and Madeleine, ooze charm and look fresh but the thin script really leaves them with no room for performance at all.Sly at times seems too conscious of the camera and doesn't feel comfortable between his toupees and comical gestures. However, he does prove that, yes, he can speak fluently if provided the opportunity:)Another thing I would like to say is that for someone like Sly who has quite a bit of experience of writing screen-plays, he really should have known better than to pick this one.Not worth your time....you're better off leaving this one alone. My rating....3 out of 10!

I bought this movie for two reasons, first, I wanted to get something my wife and I could watch together and Wal-Mart was selling it for $5.50, and secondly, it was filmed partly in the city where I work, and I saw Stallone standing between two sound trucks, looking just like Sylvester Stallone as I was leaving my office one night. I had always thought I should have a look at the movie.I expected a grim-mouthed actioner, but having seen some of Stallone's other work I should have known better. The movie is played with a lot of good humour, and fine interplay between Stallone and Stowe. There were a couple of places where I actually laughed out loud, and it's hard to make me laugh. If you want a movie you can watch on a quiet night with your teen-aged kids and your wife, this'll do fine.
