A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

I will not engage on the historical fallacies of the movie, in spite of being Canadian. There's enough about that already. In fact, all of this polemics hides the fight that it's a pretty average movie right there. Sure, it was well-directed, well-acted, well-shot etc - you know, Hollywood at its best, but the history had no twist, and the suspense (represented by the apparation of women dressed in black) was minimal. It wasn't stylish and reeked of Islamophobia. In fact, the "Argo" movie they used as a pretext looked miles more interesting. Now that's a movie I would want to see.And yes, there's a couple of nice scenes here and there, but this could easily have been a direct-to-TV film - I just don't see what the hype is about. It won Oscars? Seriously?

I've hated Ben Affleck for as long as I can remember. I'll admit Argo is a good films, or even a great one, though. A good film on a very difficult topic: the attempt by a CIA officer of taking 6 Americans out of a revolutionary and blood-driven Iran. There's always the risk with these type of films of idealizing one country and demonizing the other, a risk of creating two separate worlds, each opposite of the other; worlds that eventually collide.None of that happens in Argo. Actually, what the films does like no other in its genre is pointing out the shortcomings, the contradictions of the Foreing Plicy of the USA in the Middle East during the Cold War and, by extension, the flaws of the CIA: inability to see the Revolution coming, for example. The plan Afflecks's character comes up with is setting up a fake film called Argo which will be shot in Iran. That way, he thinks he'll be able to pull the six of them out of the country and take them back to safety in the USA. Only Hollywood-which is target of some sharp irony in the film- could go to the heart of darkness in such terrible circumstances. This same set of circumstances are what makes us see the best in human nature, even though the characters that show it to us have to fight against the odds to let us know that there's still some spark of light inside us: a employee of the Canadian embassy in Teheran who doesn't rat their employers out when offer the opportunity; the very Canadian ambassador who took the Americans in knowing that hi was sticking his neck out; Ben Affleck's character and his willingness to rescue them no matter the cost and so on.That the story had to be declassified after 17 years during the Clinton administration, makes me ponder on the number of times that stories like this one might me happening in our world amidst wars or revolutions. Needless to say that neither you nor I, dear reader, know what's going on out there.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews about this movie. I thought it was wonderful! At the beginning of the movie it did go very slow and I thought it was going to just suck, but as it progressed it got better and better. 8 out of 10 because the first 30 minutes weren't that great. Ben did a fantastic job directing this movie. Very glad with the awards this movie won. It definitely deserved it.

A huge error in the movie is,, in every airport in the world, if there is a problem, the control tower normally call the plane and stops it. In this movie, this is an error, as the security runs after the plane instead of the control tower ordering the plane to not take off.Otherwise excellent and very interesting movie, but despite there are some technical faults in the movie, its been nominated in Oscars for the big ones. So, that another down side that its very political and show only one side of a particular country.
